Hi, I'd like to confirm the meaning of the 3 ranges of the plugin. "Loudness range" is defined in https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/tech/tech3342v2_0.pdf . "Avg. Dynamics (PLR)" is the True Peak minus the Integrated LUFS. "Realtime Dynamics" is PSR, which is the PLR in a 3 seconds window (ie, using short term LUFS). Is this correct? This technical information could be in the manual, maybe just some references.

Yes, this is true for all measurements. Yep, I should add this in the manual. Will put it on the todo list.

Yep, but in a hacky way.

Just delete the settings file from here:

Win: C:\Users\***username***\AppData\Local\Youlean\Youlean Loudness Meter 2
Mac: /Users/***username***/Library/Application Support/Youlean/Youlean Loudness Meter 2

Some questions for Youlean:

For the most part, I thoroughly enjoy using my copy of Youlean Pro. Love the export functions for comparison between mixes and masters...

1. ...But I have noticed some weird discrepancies between the MTM plugin called Expose and the older plugin called TT Dynamic Range Meter. It's weird, like I don't know what plugin to trust regarding Dynamic Range values. For example, a professional master from CD shows a 10.1 Dynamic Range value in Expose AND a 10.1 Loudness Range in Youlean. So despite the naming difference (i.e. dynamic range vs. loudness range), at least I confirmed the same value. Here's where the oddity occurs: when I run one of my mixes through the Youlean process, it shows a value of 6.9 Loudness Range vs. 10.0 Dynamic Range in Expose. Whuuut? So who do I trust and why the odd discrepancy?

2. Why the term "Loudness Range?" The export chart shows "DR" so why not just call it Dynamic Range at the bottom?

EDIT: I *think* I'm incorrect about Loudness Range vs. Dynamic Range. I am still doing some tests, but I *think* we're good.

I guess "Dynamic Range" is basically real-time, and "Loudness Range" is the average difference between the loudest and quietest parts of the entire song/range. Thanks for the roll-over tips for this information.

Loudness range is a difference between the loudest and quietest parts of the audio (with gating). There is a standard defined for that and all meters should be really close in measurements.

Realtime dynamics (dynamic range) is a difference between short-term and true peak values. There is no official standard and implementations will be different depending on the meter.

Average dynamics (peak to loudness ratio) is a difference between integrated loudness and max true peak. There is no standard for that, but it uses true peaks and integrated loudness so it should be really similar with every meter.

Looking deeper into the settings, True Peak Max defaults to -1.0. Wouldn't that trigger overs in the meter prematurely?? Shouldn't it be -.5 or even less??

Many DAB, audio for video, and streaming sites require a max TP level of -1 dBFS. You can easily change it if you need to.

(you used a "default" preset, and the output was -23LUFS... so I assume it's normalizing to the overall target ILk)

And is this "multi-stage" or just LUFS ILk?
(I assume it's just the basic ILk normalization, other tools that do multi-stage "spec handling" are insanely expensive)

It's not multistage, it is just overall normalization to the target.

Youlean Loudness Meter 2 - V2.5.10 - November 10, 2024 update
