Hi,
Just wondering people thoughts on these two for mastering. T-Racks 5 comes the meter match, One and a couple other modules, so seems like a decent all in one mastering plugin. And obviously Lurssen seems like a good all-in-one as well.
Specifically I'm wondering how they compare for a live real-time master channel rack if you were playing keys, triggering clips etc (Ableton/Bitwig type stuff). Does one of them have lower latency overall? I think the Lurssen plugin is a separate plugin outside of T-racks right?
Obviously this is a consideration for the current group buy, so both could be possible as well, but might only grab one of them.
Thanks!

i don't think, with some exceptions, mastering tools on the master, while you mix... always introduces latency (ozone also seems to make things worse... can't remember strangely, people who had problems with projects, i always asked in some cases, of course, do you have ozone on the master), and are in my view, but my view isn't objective, of course, not tools that you must apply while mixing...Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat Aug 21, 2021 8:23 pm Hi,

i have t-racks 5, in way MAX, well bought everything second hand, and a group buy... + leslie, so bigger, than the current MAX...
the stealth limiter introduces quite some latency?
o me thinks i can't answer this question without experience... when i do master, i did it in t-racks 5 standalone, now wavelab pro 10 (+the metering of t-racks, and of course other stuff...).
all are plugins that you can load, lurssen i don't know, but most likely, that one i don't own.
you can even load t-racks 5, the mastering tool...
the stealth limiter is worth it, and the other compressors, eq's, stereo imagers, etc.
lurrsen is a one-in-all solution... with some settings... it is my, again, preference, to have more detail settings. but it seems quite good.
not an answer, that brings you much further. could test, perhaps others, already use it on the master.
i do sometimes use a mastering tool on the master, but mainly for very slight settings, i master in the mix...
but if you really need a live mastering tool. well, ONE, isn't that latency foolish... i think...
o well 51 ms is quite foolish... stealth 100ms...
strangely my last project in bitwig is with shadow hills mastering processor class a, had forgotten about it, 1.7ms latency, only for the sound.. it is by the way an 'extract' project, making new samples, from a recording..
o well not interesting...
google helps, lurssen, it seems @48Khz, 481 samples. not bad, by the way. the numbers above aren't foolish, if you consider ozone (great stuff, not for me...) is 8192, or so....
it is doable me thinks..
and it is what you want, also the genre seems to affect, as someone, gladly mentioned once, when i asked it.
people forget that a genre, or how you mix, the mastering tools have to be compatible...
for me t-racks 5 does the trick. and as plugins by the way.... nice emulations.... not only for mastering, the bus processor... quite nice.... good, low latency.
something to consider.
i hope this helps a bit.
EDIT: the stealth limiter, in offline, i.e. render mode, goes in higher oversampling. that is why i made the mistake. only rendering with the stealth limiter, takes time... but it is worth it, because, well, it is not by accident that it is considered amongst the best... also depending on your needs, genre, how like your sound, as always... for me it works perfectly.. i like the stealth, it introduces no real audible coloring.. no coloring in a way... that is quite usefull, if you only want to LUFS for platforms...

Yeah I guess the question is more about whether they have low latency modes. All limiters have some latency with look ahead, and some compressors, but they often have a low latency mode for more real-time use (guitar pedals are good examples). Wondering if either of these packages support that. Won't have main music rig up before the group buy ends but could maybe download them on surface to test that. Hoping it's an easy answer though (in addition to opinions on the sounds and usability etc.)

The stealth limiter is amazing, I got it a few months ago and it works almost all the time and seems to be mostly free of artifacts.
I’d go for t-racks before the Lurssen console. I haven’t used the lurssen console but reading the description it looks like it’s meant to be more of a solution when you just want something that does pseudo mastering (meaning you’re not a mastering engineer, not meaning it doesn’t sound good), but doesn’t really allow you to have full control. I’ll probably get it if there’s enough free items but I use ozone now and then stealth limiter, taking the maximizer off in ozone. That’s also pseudo mastering and I don’t make any claims otherwise right now!

I haven't tried the Lurssen yet, but it is somewhere on my grope buy hit list. I got in @€199 point, that will allow me to get it, but my options are running a little thin above the €99 mark. So, depending on how far it goes, I'll get it. I use the Fairchild and the Stealth on my master out when I'm rendering. I use the native Logic Linear EQ on that as well.
As has been shown to me everytime I've looked at it: TRY IT! lol. I think having a good number of TrackS would probably trump the Lurssen. I am not a mastering engineer.

Lurssen is much easier than anything else in 'mastering' section. I think it was developed for the people who doesn't know anything about mastering tools, but who needs a quick results for their tracks. The only think you should do for this, just select [any] relevant preset, set an input level of your track and job is done. And it gives a really good results because it's a quality processor.
T-RackS 5 is the complete opposite of Lurssen. You should tweak the sound according to your aims. Yes T-RackS has great set of the mastering presets, you need a several T-RackS processor to use them. So if you don't know how to use compressors, limiters, EQ etc for mastering reason, and you're going to use presets, T-RackS will be much more expensive than Lurssen.

I used to use Lurssen, but now I think it does too much (there's stuff going on under the hood that you can't control). Now I just keep my mastering as transparent as possible, meaning I like to know everything that's happening, and keep it subtle, normally just the Ozone EQ, then Gullfoss, then Ozone dynamics, then the Ozone Maximizer.
Having said that, I mix with the T Racks stuff, I use heaps of them, the Fairchild, the black comp, the buss comp, I use quite a few regularly.

I personally use PSP infinistrip for all my low latency tracking/processing needs. Works great and highly recommend you give it a shot. https://www.pspaudioware.com/product/psp-infinistrip

Thanks but in this specific case it’s really about the IK group buy.LGK_Dude wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 8:12 pm I personally use PSP infinistrip for all my low latency tracking/processing needs. Works great and highly recommend you give it a shot. https://www.pspaudioware.com/product/psp-infinistrip

Is there a particular reason you’d need low latency in a mastering limiter? Are you tracking with the limiter on or just while mixing or mastering? If it’s just in mixing or mastering latency shouldn’t cause any issue as long as your daw has latency compensation.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat Aug 21, 2021 9:24 pm Yeah I guess the question is more about whether they have low latency modes. Also, not all limiters use look ahead, although some do.

For live performance using clip launchers, playing keys etc. Usually I keep it really simple with a native limiter in Bitwig, but in the past I've found with certain software like Ozone that I'll throw on some mastering presets and really like the effect, and then figure out what they did. I'm not much of a mastering engineer, but have definitely come across mastering chains that have helped in the past that I've tweaked to get a better sound.mrufino1 wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 12:46 amIs there a particular reason you’d need low latency in a mastering limiter? I wouldn't normally buy one of these products, but with the IK deal, it would be nice to have some preset master chains to try and tweak, however I want to keep it pretty low latency for live stuff.

Ah, that makes sense. I don’t do any of that stuff, I mostly record mix traditional type things like jazz, classical, and rock, so it’s good for me to learn about other approaches. Thanks for expanding on it.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 1:50 amFor live performance using clip launchers, playing keys etc. Usually I keep it really simple with a native limiter in Bitwig, but in the past I've found with certain software like Ozone that I'll throw on some mastering presets and really like the effect, and then figure out what they did.
