This is really great news. As someone who has come to despise Windows 10 I have been using Linux distros more an more for every day tasks but not music production.Clem4 wrote: Sat Aug 21, 2021 6:38 am and HY is going Linux ! (seq 32 already available in the download section)
It nice to see another developer support native Linux versions of their plugins.
Perhaps too late for me but hopefully one day Linux will be the OS of choice for musicians since it really is an efficient, lightweight, and privacy respecting OS.

More and more brands make this choice/move and it's the first step to make Linux a competitive audio plateform. There will no need of win nor mac anymore. But the road will be very long... For now the linux plugins versions are not as good as win or mac one because brands don't spend the same time on it. But but one day we can hope... Bitwig, Reaper, U-he, TAL, HY, AudioDamage, DiscoDSP, Matt Tytell (Vital Audio), The Surge Team, TheWaveWarden....and many more are in the place

This is exactly why I stopped using Linux 20 years ago - if you can't use it for everything, why use it at all? Windows is like democracy - it's the worst possible system, except for all the others.Teksonik wrote: Sat Aug 21, 2021 1:18 pmThis is really great news. The reason I don't use Linux for music production is because not all of my favorite plugins and DAWs have a native Linux version. There is not one other task I need to accomplish that can't be done on Linux and be done faster with privacy.
Don't confuse the OS with developer's support of that OS.
If everything I'm using now would run native on Linux I would drop Winblows in a heartbeat and never look back. Anyone who uses Linux now and actually pays attention to what Win 10 does to your system should agree. For example this is Sunday so monitor what WaaSMedic Agent.exe does to your spinning disk drives on it's scheduled weekly run.
In my recent experience, modern Linux distros are far more efficient than Winblows. Full stop.
We're starting to see forward thinking developers support native Linux versions more and more like U-he and Bitwig all the way to one man operations like Vital and now it's great to see HY join the battle.
Anyway this discussion is off topic so all I'll say any further is that I'm happy to see HY become one of those forward thinking developers. Hopefully one day in the future all developers will join him.
End of discussion.

Anyway back on topic I see there are three empty slots in the Osc selection drop down. Will be interesting to see if they get filled up in the future. I'd love to be able to apply unison to other Osc types than just the 3 Osc module.

I support every single word, but this especially sums up my point of view about Linux as alternative for my audio music production needs:
Then I tried some applications like Ardour DAW and others, which indeed is a very capable app in the matter. But then I started to give up because when I asked for some music applications there was no answer or the Linux alternatives did not meet my expectations in most of cases.
Personally I hate Windows 10, although its enhancements are undeniable, its annoyances are unbearable and isn't the idea to talk here about something that we all know in our own flesh.
Even I hold 75% of the time in Windows 7 (Antivirus active, no problem with attacks) that still makes me feel a greater degree of freedom, reliability and security.
But if Linux were definitively supported by that 98% of the developer industry, I wouldn't hesitate a moment to jump in with Marvel hero energia!
However I don't want to get into Linux for now. I have so many tools to learn in my current environment that I don't want to leave music composition and creation with a marginal activity, by getting involved in a universe IMHO, incomplete yet.
My reflection word: Yes, Linux is a serious promise land for music! just it needs to be colonized for the sake of progress.
For the sake of curiosity and interest, I join a big Spanish group related to Linux audio in Telegram. It's really amazing how that community is growing. They are very open and supportive, although there are some hints of fanaticism time on time. What has privacy got to do with anything? As soon as you open a browser and start using the internet, all your privacy is gone, irrespective of your OS. If you want privacy, don't use the internet. That is your only choice.Teksonik wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 1:18 pm The reason I don't use Linux for music production is because not all of my favorite plugins and DAWs have a native Linux version. But it doesn't, which is my point. If you can't use an OS for everything you need to do on a computer, then why use it at all? That's how you choose your OS - you look at all the things you want to do on your computer, and you select the OS that best supports those applications/tasks.If everything I'm using now would run native on Linux I would drop Winblows in a heartbeat and never look back.
I haven't had a computer with a spinning drive since 2008. Even my external back-up drives have been SSDs for a decade or so. But WaasMedicAgent.exe is there for a reason - it keeps your update installs in good condition so that you don't get errors and things keep working smoothly. For example this is Sunday so monitor what WaaSMedic Agent.exe does to your spinning disk drives on it's scheduled weekly run.
Maybe if you build your own kernel. Otherwise it's just as full of bloat as Windows because it will still have support for a thousand things you don't need and won't use. That's what makes the experience so much better than it was 25 years ago, when no support for anything was built in.In my recent experience, modern Linux distros are far more efficient than Winblows. Full stop.
Not for the first time. Corel got into Linux in a big way in the late90s/early 2000s, even making their own Linux distro. But they ended up almost going broke and being bought out. The first thing the new owners did was ditch Linux. We're starting to see forward thinking developers support native Linux versions more and more like U-he and Bitwig all the way to one man operations like Vital and now it's great to see HY join the battle.
It doesn't matter how many plugin devs support Linux, until all the DAW devs do, it's wasted effort and the big DAW devs have too much skin in the commercial game to be bothered.

The only two that matter do support Linux, I couldn‘t care less about the others. But my main tool doesn‘t, though they once claimed a port to Linux would be much less hassle than their port to Windows… I appreciate that they did the Windows port, as it probably paid for its development…BONES wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 3:03 am It doesn't matter how many plugin devs support Linux, until all the DAW devs do, it's wasted effort and the big DAW devs have too much skin in the commercial game to be bothered.
That a move to Linux would lock out a good amount of good synths and tools wouldn‘t bother me, those who do are enough to cover all my needs…
Now its up to you to figure what I am talking about…; - )
Now its up to you to guess about which tools I am talking about.
