Dear members,
Just wanted to widen my knowledge in terms of terminology and the subject said it all. I know Bigwig:container, Live:Rack how about cubase, studio one, FLStudio, Logic etc ?
Thanks for sharing.

You could say the multi instrument in Studio One is something remotely like a combinator. Reason combinator is pretty unique though. It can do a lot more than the Studio One multi instrument. And probably a lot more than any other implementation in other DAW's.

I think Reason Combinator 2 is going to have a slightly unique place in this list with the complete ability to customise and create a very unique UX and UI experience. I'm not sure anything else has that, most are just 'functional', some or fun and easy to use (Live, Bitwig) other are a bit of an afterthought (or a 'me to' feature) an buried away! I suspect Combinator 2 will be something of a headline feature for Reason.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

.. basic channels/tracks in Reaper.
They can be hugely complex modular monsters and even allow feedback routing. Not easy to manage though and a true PITA to decode once you open up an older project and try to figure out what the hell is going on!!

FL's Patcher is the same and they didn't have to remove any DAW features to introduce itSLiC wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 7:21 pmI'm not sure anything else has that, most are just 'functional', some or fun and easy to use (Live, Bitwig) other are a bit of an afterthought (or a 'me to' feature) an buried away! Proper macro controls for single/multiple parameters is a pain (or an impossibility) to set up, though, so I wouldn't put them on the same page with Combinator which has very easy to set up control over everything.bmanic wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 7:43 pm .. basic channels/tracks in Reaper.

I really hope Propellerheads would for once go all out and do something really flexible and incredible with the Combinator udpate. Like a wide selection of faders, knobs, buttons, XY-pads that you can fully customize in any way you want onto a big panel you can design yourself...
...
Unfortunately moves like these haven't happened for Reason in over ten years so I expect it will be another "60% of what people hoped for" thing that's nice but that's outdone by other software (Bitwig) already on day of release.

Not sure about "all out", but it's where they're going with it. There's already some great looking devices made by the beta community.Liero wrote: Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:57 amI really hope Propellerheads would for once go all out and do something really flexible and incredible with the Combinator udpate.
