VG-8 and VG-88. They were alright. The synth sounds were about as good as the current SY-1000, IOW fun for guitar players but nothing that can replace real synths. The guitar sounds are over processed.

Variax is alright. Edgy, hard attack but otherwise good sounding. Maybe a compressor pedal would fix it. The Les Paul version was sweet looking. The Variax Acoustic had a lot of really useful sounds and the hard attack works well for acoustics.

Someone should make a humbucker based on the G&L Z-Coil:

Variax is a really good option... I have the JTS-69 strat and with a Helix it's not so much an all-rounder as a do-anything... a covers-band Swiss Army Knife with all the gadgets!

Richie Castellano has some great Line 6 tips and amazing covers, I think he plays for Blue Oyster Cult.

As TobyB said, the Variax is a godsend for anyone doing a wide variety of songs live. I only use mine for recording so am a bit more critical given there's no time/lugging shitloads of guitars about constraints.

I do think it's great and would buy it again in an instant, but it does do some things a lot better than others, which is understandable.

The LPs, Strats, Teles. Semis models are all excellent and I've used them countless times for recording.

The acosutics ,as above, would be useful live, but you'd never want to use it to replace a real mic'd up acoustic guitar. The 12 string electric similarly, you'd get away with it live but it does sound quite 'pitch-shifty.

The banjo/resonator/electric sitar are great fun, and actually quite useful - used the resonater a few times.

The icing on the cake is the tuning facility - you can do some wacky stuff which would involve changing strings on another guitar, and you can do a creditable bass at a pinch if you're careful with your playing. There's also the Workbench HD software which allows you to mix and match, move pickups etc etc.

I have the Standard, and it's a nicely made guitar of itself (Pacifica basically).

I've definitely had my money's worth, and that's me saying it, living in Yorkshire.

Music Man Majesty... it has piezo, you can split the humbuckers, and it even has a built-in boost (for lead). Both coil split and boost are at a push of a knob (volume knob for boost and tone knob for split)... push them down again to revert back. They do go 4k USD, but incredible build and playability. I have 15 guitars, and I use this one 90% of the time. Also has one of the best tremolo/whammys that do not involve a lock nut.

FWIW, the Fender Noiseless pickups he uses (or any stacked single coil that isn't super vintage sounding) makes a difference.

Sweet :)

My Strat is basically the same as a Jeff Beck Signature Strat, as well. The only thing I'm missing is the LSR nut.

my guitars all have a loose nut tother side of the strap
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Unpopular opinion (as it's looks don't usually represent it's sound versatility and body parts modularity): Ibanez RG series

Some Ibanez’s are beautiful, too. The oil finish S470 and S5470 are gorgeous. A black RG550 with the maple fretboard is striking. I’m not so into figured tops these days but I’d choose my RG3120 over most PRS’s for that kind of look.
