@Taron and TJ Shredder - I always wondered how to work with synths that allow you to draw waveforms. I just thought it was random, hope for the best. I never thought to actually draw from another waveform. Thanks for the tip!

You're very welcome, Aro! While looking at existing waveforms, if you have found a perfect single-cycle loop, the other thing that's interesting is to look at the spectrum and isolate components. In Audition I used to love doing that, especially studying piano, actually. You can get a feeling for the frequencies and weights of them to then try and replicate those additive or looking at the spectrum an FM synth may produce.
But waveforms are a lot more fun to fathom. You can virtually imagine the pressure changes and when you use references you can imagine what they're like. This is why I love synthesis.

Here's this months entry. For a change of pace and for some fun I switched DAW's from Logic to Reason. Approx 30 instances of TAL, all original sounds, Reason reverbs, delay, eq and compressor efx as well as the built in mixing board EQ and Compression. Nova Free and Limiter No6 on the master bus. Please enjoy.....

My entry with Noisemaker.
I'm really on a break from synth programming these days, trying to sharpen my skills in orchestral scoring. But Noisemaker is too good to ignore! And I've missed the pure creativity of synth programming this summer, even though it's only been a few months.

Kinda feeling like my entry is hot garbage and that I should recall my entry and not participate this month.
It's very tasty, I swear!

So i can use for example HY sequencer and record the midi then delete HY sequencer?FrogsInPants wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 1:13 pmA) Yes, that sounds great and totally valid.gorgorgathgorgorgor wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 2:43 am OK. Ya'll know I've been having WAY too much fun with VCV rack. Here's a question for ya. RULES-wise, can I use triggering from VCV to trigger my noisemaker drum sounds in Reaper?
B) If you record the MIDI in Reaper, you now have a MIDI item like any other. It doesn't really matter how you created it.

Any kind of art is never a mistake, it's something you felt and you converted or expressed into music, words, paintings, photography, sculpture, etc...
Success or failing is just a matter of other opinions or tastes, but your music must be heard, and you must keep doing what you feel and what you like to do.
So don't worry and good luck

Or not delete it. It's a MIDI plugin, the freeware condition does not apply AFAIK. You could even use plugins like NI Reaktor or Sugar Bytes Obscurium as MIDI tools.Spring Goose wrote: Tue Aug 24, 2021 1:56 pm ...So i can use for example HY sequencer and record the midi then delete HY sequencer?

As I understand it, the freeware condition is largely about making sure the project can be loaded for verification in the rare event of a rules compliance check, so it applies equally to MIDI plugins.ELEX wrote: Tue Aug 24, 2021 3:47 pmOr not delete it. MIDI plugins are mentioned separately from 3rd party audio effects in the rules, without any mention of freeware, and even include other DAWs. Hence my thought. Maybe I was wrong, though. Only ever used BlueARP myself, btw.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that. (I'd forgotten it explicitly states that sending MIDI from one DAW to another is allowed, too.) It is entirely possible I'm the one who's wrong.

I'm going to have to spend some time with this thought. I get the feeling that my ears need to open a little more to fully comprehend.Taron wrote: Mon Aug 23, 2021 10:15 pm You're very welcome, Aro!
