No, TribeOfHofuo, you are wrong here. I've seen the "We're a plugin (and a DAW)" line on Reason Studios website for months. I'm sure some of that content is dynamic and may come and go, but you asserting that statement is brand new is BS. It was on their site (in one place or another) all summer, and even earlier in the year I believe (possibly even last year).TribeOfHǫfuð wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:50 pmNo, SLIC, it has not been announced so directly as that. Reason + occupied their homepage just a week ago or so, now it is Plug In Reason. However the concept and turn have been primed since the release of the plugin.SLiC wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:19 pm You haven't visited for a while then, its been like that all year!

I'd also be surprised if only a fraction use Reason as a DAW. As far as I always read, most use it as a DAW indeed.EnochLight wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:53 pm^^ Pretty much this ^^SLiC wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:19 pm You haven't visited for a while then, its been like that all year!
% of all DAW users who will use Reason as their primary DAW irrespective of if they add folders or VST3! <5%? Reason will never be like Pro Tools, Cubase or Logic, it's built 'around' the rack....
Potential new market for Reason as a Plugin = HUDGE.
Can't blame them.
Ironically, as more than half of their users are still Reason DAW users still (according to what Mattias said earlier this year).
No, KVR is not really informative.

LMAO!!!! They haven't done shit in mobile and Reason Compact was a resounding failure as far as I can tell. Oops! They should have folded Take and Figure into Reason Compact and just made 1 single app, and made it truly compatible with Reason desktop. Not that it would have resulted in much additional revenue, if any at all. I just want it."Will (Reason) still be Propellerhead’s primary focus, or does Agevik’s background suggest a shift to a mobile-centric business model? The company recently re-acquired its Figure and Take apps, and it has suggested that these will be developed further in the future."
On that note, had they continued to develop Reason Compact and add more instruments and effects, that would have been nice. It feels like abandonware at this point.

My point was what % of all DAW users use Reason as their primary DAW, I suspect RS have less than 5% of the entire DAW Market (which is already pretty saturated) so offering their stuff (their own ecosystem) to people who use other DAWs (the other 95%!) is smartchk071 wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:56 pmI'd also be surprised if only a fraction use Reason as a DAW. That should squash any confusion people have about what is Reason+
Complete with the obligatory 2:1 dislike/like ratio
...You can use Reason+ in any music-making software.
If you don't have that, well, that's included too...

They've always taken a "hipster" music-making approach to promoting Reason, at least for the past 11-12 years. Anyone remember this gem?

The difference being this one actually showcased the product, not the "idea".EnochLight wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 1:15 pm They've always taken a "hipster" music-making approach to promoting Reason, at least for the past 11-12 years.
Perhaps Reason wants to be the Nike of music making

It's a 45-second "blurb", not a in-depth features video. I'm sure they'll release in-depth stuff to satisfy you, though.antic604 wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 1:25 pm The difference being this one actually showcased the product, not the "idea".
If they ran their dev's like a Nike sweatshop, we'd be on Reason 30 by now.

The whole "Reason is a plugin, and also a DAW" thing has existed since the RRP was released. Sure it wasn't explicit back then but it was about as subtle as a sledgehammer too. Huge images at the top of their website with the RRP running in Live etc. People said it was merely because the RRP was new and thus focused on. I actually believed it, or wanted to believe it enough that i could ignore it. Ridiculous

Yes, exactly - the kind of worst-case scenario the article describes is something we would gladly take any day over the bleak reality this clueless kid seems to have created while toying around with his new company.EnochLight wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:57 pmIt's funny - because the standout line in that article to me is:jens wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:28 pm Worthy of a re-read, I think:

I'm new to using Reason. How often do they have sales on their rack extensions? Sure wish they could be resold. I'd really like to grab some!

Reason+ sub, RRP, and what I've seen coming in Reason 12 seems to say otherwise, IMHO. I couldn't imagine RS going any other direction, in fact.jens wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 6:23 pm Yes, exactly - the kind of worst-case scenario the article describes is something we would gladly take any day over the bleak reality this clueless kid seems to have created while toying around with his new company.

But either way this here is a conversation between musicians - not managers who get themselves new companies as birthday presents. So it's like we live on an entirely different planet to them either way.
And that is the point really. Reason's progress and history all these years had been decided by people with which we share a lot of common ground, regardless of potential petty arguments and disagreements.
And by the look of it, it now instead is dictated by someone who's got a passion for smearing his feeble hands with all this kind of business related nonsense any sane person loathes like the devil's poo - arguably the most pointless human existance one could possibly make up.
