Isn't the Andromeda quite a neutral sounding synth. I would have thought the Novation Peak or Summit would already be close enough. (or a Polybrute it if you like the Polybrute sound).

A new version of the Andromeda would surely have to be about that Summit Price point £1700?

Nostalgia, its not what it used to be

I remember reading all about the Andromeda when it first came out and all I can remember was a lot of complaints (dull filters, no FM, etc). Ultimately it is a two oscillators per voice synth with standard waveforms...Deepmind 12 will get you very close for £600. Listen to the 2 VST (sample based) Andromedas (IK an UVI, I have both and I can't hear anything special) So what is 'special' about the sound? The Andromeda had poly, multi timbrility, 70+ knobs, ribbons etc- it looked like a spaceship dashboard (all cool

) but what the core sound that good? were the filters that good (reportedly quite poor, hard to tell with software emulations)

I just bought a Summit (a bit more money!) It's truly amazing- If you want a '2021' Andromeda look at the Summit, no need to go back to a warts and all clone.

Well wasn't it basically the only analogue poly synth released between 1988 and 2005...? (possible exaggeration here..)

But I totally agree, Summit, Polybrute, REV 2, DM12 - lots of alternatives now!

It’s got a quirky control layout and a sexy name, but yes it’s nothing you can’t get elsewhere.
Remake something that doesn't currently have a true hardware alternative like the Poly Evolver.

Yeah, that about sums up my memory of it as well, not to mention all the reports of instability, constant troubleshooting, excessive menu-diving, etc. Everything I heard about it made it seem like the most overhyped/priced vanilla ice cream ever made. I saw one recently on craigslist for about $4K and was thinking, hmmmmmm, his mom must've forgotten to buy him a new calendar for the past 6-7 years or something because I don't think people are paying anywhere near that these days, are they?

So, to answer the OP's 2019 question.... probably nothing because it never really appealed to me and I don't have the space for such a behemoth. But, like others, I'd possibly buy a good replica made from a reputable developer (e.g., Synapse) if the price was right.

Before the Prophet 08, I believe it was pretty much the only new analogue polysynth you could buy (there might have been some very pricey boutique-style polys?). That made it rather special. It was also 16-part multitimbral with 2 filters per voice, multi-stage envelopes and a mod matrix. However I also remember reading that people weren't that impressed by the overall tone/sound of the synth even though it looked impressive on paper.

A problem when describing the sound of the Andromeda is that we have not many references or known recordings made with the Andromeda. Besides that, it’s a real sound chameleon. The basic sound can get in different ways towards Moog, Oberheim, Yamaha… That can be good or bad depending or what people would expect from sound character.
