The Hy plugins seem to run fine in linux, I'll test them this weekend, and add the keepers to santa's short list :hyper:

The point is that when you find the right thing, it's the only thing you need. If you've got 5 computers and 4 cars, then you haven't found the right computer or the right car. If you want to bring it back on topic, HY-Poly is not the right synth. There are instruments I own that I could imagine using as my one and only synth if I had to but HY-Poly is not among them.
Halonmusic wrote: Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:11 pmnot sure if mentioned already, but the filters sounds really nice!
Really? I find them generic, workmanlike. Not terrible but not great, either. HY-Poly is not what I would reach for if I was looking for something where the filter mattered.

I may have obscene amounts of cars and computers, but each is a source of pleasure and function, and some work is always involved in their upkeep. I've not been drunk for decades, never been stoned, and my first wife prefers my collecting cars and computers to more seedy pastimes.

Meanwhile, I'm painfully enduring obscene sonic suffering, 330 windows plugins wrapped in the latest Yabridge sync, with U-he, Komplete, discodsp, and KV331 leading the way for synths/samples, with BlueCat Axiom, Amplitube 4, and Guitar Rig 6 for plucked instruments, Harrison Mixbus, Lurssen Mastering Console, and T-Racks for polish. I don't think I can bear it much longer. Even worse, addiction to Reaktor ensembles and Kontakt libs is making me twitch.
Twitch...twitch,
and now I'm testing the Hyakken collection? :dog:
What's WRONNNNGGGGG with me? I think I'll go for a drive,
and chill out a bit.

I don‘t know a single professional guitar player who has only one guitar…
I also have two basses, and two violins. I even have two LinnStrument like surfaces, one original, and one overlay for my Sensel. Of course I use one of them most, but depending on context the other one gets its use…
Of course I don‘t really need all parts of my hoarded collection of synth plugins, could live happily with much less. But sometimes its just fun or even inspiring to load up a rarely used plugin. Hy-Poly belongs to those who I like and which can inspire, but also to those I could live without. In the end its just another VA synth…

OT, but is that Linnstrument overlay an official one you can buy, or is it one you or someone else created for the Innovator’s Overlay? I would be very grateful if you could provide any additional information about this.

Thanks!

I don't know a single professional guitar player. Or a single professional car owner. I do know a lot of people who make their living using a computer, and they all only have one computer. Every, single one of them I know. I use my computer for two very different things but I still only have one computer. That's kind of the thing with computers - you can use them for pretty much anything. They are not specialised devices, you don't need more than one.

I know amateur and semi-professional guitar players that have small collections. It's not that they don't have the right one, it's that no right one exists that does everything they want. With synths it might be a different matter because of their versatility. As a freeware user, I need a small handful to have everything I want but it might be true that with commercial synths, one is enough. I think if I could afford commercial synths, I might have just one but still toy with freeware, just for the fun of it.

You obviously never heard about those people who make a living using a computer which create all those plugins you love so much. They need and do have multiple installations and computers, just for testing… If they would not, they could not make a living…
But no problem, its just not your world and we know already you can‘t even imagine another world than your own…

I have a few different computers and tablets that do different tasks...

For example...

None of my studio computers are connected to the internet...

Also....I am a guitar player and although I mainly focus on a couple of instruments, there are a few others that are around if I need them...

There are no rules :)

That's your choice and to me it's an indulgent (and a slightly stupid) one. I haven't worked like that since 2003 and I can't see any reason to. I have two tablets but they are largely worthless these days and I haven't switched either of them on in months. If I thought they could be useful to someone else, I'd happily give them away but, to be honest, they will probably end up in the recycling bin.

I dunno, I used to make plugins with just one computer, the same one I used to earn my living in motion graphics and produce our albums. Even when I used to have to work with both Windows and Linux, I still only had one computer, with dual-boot. Have you not heard of virtual machines? They are excellent environments for testing code. Sure, if you are doing stuff for Mac and PC, you probably need one of each but that's only because Apple are c**ts and force you to. That said, SynthEdit allows you to make Mac compatible plugins on your PC, so maybe you don't?

Mr BONES....

We all appreciate that you have a forthright opinion on everything from A-Z,but it's a little fatiguing now,so let us kindly remind you, that your opinions are not the only game in town

I think he cannot contextualize anything unless it's through his own experience. Some people have difficulty imagining and empathizing with the experiences of others. Every single time, he gives an example of what he does, or did. Situations outside of his own personal experiences seem difficult to grasp.

The thread is about Hy-poly, Bones, if you don't like it and only want to use a single tool for everything, no one is stopping you. That perfectly okay. It's also fine if other people want to do things a different way and have more options.
