Whichever of my many freebies does the job easiest bearing in mind the particular sounds I want to create.

I change bass and pad synths from tune to tune just to get my many synths in use. However, Friktion makes good violins when layered subtly with samplepacks, so no need to switch for the principle of it here. Everything else apart from guitar is replaceable, including various samplepacks, and add variations to otherwise simple jobs that could have been made with almost any of my synths or a varity of samplepacks.

Not one synth, not even 5!
RP synths (Predator 2, Blue 2, B.I.T and Quad)
FM X (MODX)
NI FM8, Massive/X

But FM8 is my most used synth over the years.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

It's deceptively good, isn't it? It sounds really good and it's a breeze to work with. I even like the stupid way they've done their presets. Somehow it's quick and easy to find stuff. Now that I'm back on a laptop with a decent res screen I should think of it more often. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes i like it a lot. it is one of those synths i first go for for most sounds be it bass or pads/strings. I also do like the filter a lot.

Dcam xfer Waldorf sit the best in my mix , i also use reaktor , massive x bazille and few others but cypher serum largo cut the best in my mix without processing these sound finished and right for my need ,these have a very infront punchy sound kinda like the first nords you can have a decent mix you haven t used a eq yet almost .
I don t know if anyone noticed but when used to program synth like cypher or serum when moving to other synth like massive x it feel something is not right , the sound is very flat , it happen in many synth i think it s the tricks used for reducing aliasing, it feel like everything is softened , from the transients to the modulation ..i really don t like that , it sound fake to me ,it might come from oversampling filter and slew limiting on the modulation to save cpu ..no idea really but it feel like this , still very good synths just soft ..transients sound like using 5 linear eq on top 😀 actually synth like this sound like these have almost no transients ence a sort of dynamically flat sound that is never really about to explode , it stay always controlled but not in natural way , could be the oversampling filter really that goes too much in audible range ..i used massive 1 in eco modime no oversampling cause of this , transients were slitghy better

Celebrating the anniversary of this thread.
On top of bitwig synths I really like using Reason rack plugin. Reason has a crazy synth from the authors of Dune 3 named Antidote. It looks simple but it is a real war machine.

Other than that of course serum and pigments...

And as mentioned earlier, Friktion, again in Reason Rack is an awesome way to get very realistic guitars, strings and even flutes and bass. Like a sampling library but the flexibility of a synth.

Dune 2 + Dune 3: 15
Serum : 14
Sylenth1: 10

How do I know? Well, I tag the posts in my blog with all the synths and instruments used.

I'd likely use Massive X more often, but it's relatively new one, so didn't score that high in stats.

Others - 1 to 3, often just for a little flavour of novelty.

Lately I've been using ACE more because with the new CLAP version, I can do polyphonic modulation using Bitwig's vast modulation system, including modulating various parameters that cannot be directly modulated in ACE itself.
