No drag and drop midi pattern? Oh I assumed there was. That would be useful.

No. But you can export the MIDI file or have ABL3 actually output MIDI notes that you can record in your DAW. Drag & drop would obviously be faster than any of those, but that's not the end of the world.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 12:18 am No drag and drop midi pattern? EDIT: sorry, it already was mentioned on last page

Apropos pattern: I used ABL3 today to send MIDI from the pattern sequencer to Massive X and Monark today. Man, that's an absolute killer feature.
Instant 303 magic in any synth. The pattern randomizer also yields many useful results.

What a narrow mind you have. So you never use presets ? Sometimes making music requires flow, and sometimes instead of taking time to create a sound or a pattern, its quicker to flick through presets.gentleclockdivider wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 12:04 amWhy do you need patterns ?LeVzi wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 5:59 pmWhat ?gentleclockdivider wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 4:44 pmWhy else would you use abl , to play other people's patterns ??LeVzi wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 7:21 am Is there any other places to get pattern presets ? I don't agree
A preset = (variable)parameter states .
A pattern = phrase ,collection of notes
Using someone else's pattern is kind of lame , but hey it's a free world .

lol, so you never use a preset EVER, you always tweak it ?gentleclockdivider wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 10:15 am I don't agree

Jeez, I wish the world could be as original as you are.
Using a pattern is like using an arp, and you can change the way it sounds, so its hardly lame using other's patterns, its the same as using presets and tweaking them. But hey, I guess unless people are as original as you are, they are all lame.

Yet many professional music producers do it.
E.g., I've heard the "First contact" preset and pattern from z3ta+ in quite a few tracks.
I agree with LeVzi here: Everything is allowed. Synths have presets and sequences or arpeggio patterns for a reason.

A pattern on a bassline is not an arp , an arp needs data input (notes) and then plays those notes according to the arp's settings.
There is nothing original about using someones else's bassline pattern , it's just lame and unoriginal .
Pretty sure that all memorable acidlines are 100% original , or at least 100% random
It's like asking a guitar player to borrow his guitar hook and build a song around it

A pattern on a 303 is a tune mostly, and mostly it's the basis for the track. I'm sure people sell patterns so I guess it's legal for those specific patterns - but try writing a track based on someone else's tune and see how the lawyers like it. I suspect if you rip off a Hardfloor "pattern" and try to sell your own song entirely based around that "pattern" - you'll have some explaining and paying to do. You might think you're using a preset "pattern" - the lawyers will probably say you're ripping of a melody.

So using a pattern from someone else, famous or not, and putting it through something like Stutter Edit and changing it up so it's not recognisable is lame too right ? Who was it that said anything about plagiarising peoples patterns ? Plus with more patterns, you can easily edit them to be different, but more patterns = more starting points.gentleclockdivider wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 11:06 am A pattern on a bassline is not an arp , an arp needs data input (notes) and then plays those notes according to the arp's settings.

No one was suggesting to use the exact line, and by your reckoning , any of the built in lines cannot be used by anyone else, as they've probably already been used. Have a day off Frank, will you.
