That's my main fear. As if I haven't been wasting enough time not doing music when I do music already...chk071 wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:28 pmLooks mighty powerful. I bet the new Combinator is the tool the most people will spend their time with now.

Thanks Antic I will look at the manual.antic604 wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:06 pmThe user manual is already updated and includes a chapter on Combinator so you can check it out for yourself. I can't think of anything you can do in Racks that you can't in Combinator (although it might be more difficult to set up), while the other way around it's obvious - there's no GUI designer in Racks.Samiver wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 3:51 pmDoes the new combinator do anything different than live instrument/fx racks. Waiting to see some combi 2 videos but thought I would ask here to find out if anyone owned or have used both.

Trying to make an informed decision if upgrading from 11 to 12 is worth it.

Got it installed but it's very laggy and slow to respond on basic tasks. Hmmnnn....

40% - 50% off Reason upgrades during black friday should be worth the upgrade from R7.01 to R12. That's about £50-60....
When they get around to doing the SSL Mixer you just know it's going to be really flat and dull like this.

You'll be pleasantly surprised to discover that a fix is in the works.antic604 wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:31 pm I'm more worried about remote controls for tracks & master inserts disappearing from Mixer. I loved that! I'm sure they could've handled it better, e.g. leave them in place and let the user choose which 4 knobs & buttons are mapped there per track![]()
What OS? What GPU? No lag at all here on Windows 10, Nvidia Ti980 GPU...hotmitts wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:06 pm Got it installed but it's very laggy and slow to respond on basic tasks. Hmmnnn....

That's "normal" but tmporary. Especially when you're using it at something else than 100%, every new device you load has to scaled and the graphics - for front & back, so make sure to press Tab - will be saved to HDD cache. Next time you load it up it will be fast.hotmitts wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:06 pm Got it installed but it's very laggy and slow to respond on basic tasks. Hmmnnn....

You mean "remote" as in the script for MIDI controller? I couldn't care less about thatEnochLight wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:26 pmYou'll be pleasantly surprised to discover that a fix is in the works.antic604 wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:31 pm I'm more worried about remote controls for tracks & master inserts disappearing from Mixer. I doubt you'll get physical buttons back (or, if you're good - just maybe you will),
but the Combi you have saved in all of your older tracks should still be able to be controlled via ReMote as long as it remains the first Combi in the chain.

I scanned through Reason Studio's FB page and even Reasontalk's forums, and well, there seems to be a general air of underwhelm-ness. Lack of features, sequencer related... no updates to SSL Mixer, magnifying bugs, things being sluggish... people giving up and moving to another DAW.
I think that whilst the Combinator is really the only meaningful addition that provides any sort of creative advancement that's been long requested since it came in version 3.0, the rest seems rather meh. The Creative Sampler being one thing that could have been shelved whilst they concentrated on the core aspects of the DAW. VST Instruments are already available to cover instruments that negates RE's.
Oversights of Reason 12.
No Track Folders
No Step-Time Recording
No SSL Mixer GUI Update
No Multi-Track Editing ( Midi / Audio )
No GUI Integration of Tools Window
No Help Information Bar
No Macro Button Creation
---
Not major but...
No Notation
No Video
----
Blocks could have been put side by side like Scratchpad in Studio One with main arrangement view.

Eh, I hear ya. Frankly I never used that feature in the 10+ years we've had the main SSL mixer, but you're not the first person to say you're going to miss them. Did you end up upgrading? Or are you on R+?antic604 wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:33 pm You mean "remote" as in the script for MIDI controller? I couldn't care less about that![]()

You can have racks inside racks. Combinator doesn't allow nesting.antic604 wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:06 pm I can't think of anything you can do in Racks that you can't in Combinator (although it might be more difficult to set up), while the other way around it's obvious - there's no GUI designer in Racks.

Is the new combinator only knobs/sliders?
Surprised if they don't have XY/mouse area.. physically informed controllers such as springs that bounce back to center or blobs that bounce off walls.. transparent panels, etc..
Wonder if they can continue to add or of it's going to be frozen as is for compatibility.

It has "Controls" (which can knobs, sliders, or wheels), "Switches" (buttons), the standard pitch and mod wheels (which can also be moved or deleted), and the two special buttons — Run, and Bypass FX. For every type of control, there are numerous styles and sizes, and you can set the label position and color (or hide it).ehdyn wrote: Thu Sep 02, 2021 1:42 am Is the new combinator only knobs/sliders?

None of them have the ability to configure whether they snap back to center or zero or anything like that. The standard pitch bend wheel is the only one with that behavior; if assign it to something and disable Pitch Bend under Performance Controls, that will give you at one control that snaps back to center.
I don't see why they couldn't add more control types and behaviors in the future. I know they've always emphasized backwards compatibility, but nowadays they're expecting most people to sign up for Reason+ and always have the latest version anyway. For us dinosaurs who still buy it, they could update the Combinator with a point update (I always upgrade on release day anyway).

Am I misremembering, or did they say all rack devices would be updated for high res in Reason 12? Seems like they didn't even update most of their own devices (other than the basic stock ones), and no third party rack extensions have been updated. It's a good start, and I'm sure there's more coming in future updates, but this upgrade is pretty light on value so far.

Every device including all 3rd party Res have been updated to HD, you have to go in Reason Companion, select all and press update to HDArashi wrote: Thu Sep 02, 2021 5:32 am Am I misremembering, or did they say all rack devices would be updated for high res in Reason 12?
