I must admit I also prefer native Reason devices in Reason....it's the whole workflow thing and everything being visible all of the time in the rack, no 'opening' no 'windows' just a lovely rack of stuff that talks to each other in a way that I understand (like my hardware). I am not really finding the need to use VSTs, but it's nice to have the option.

You could do a similar list with the FX, I was really surprised by how good and interesting they were when I got 11 - especially when put in combiner with an LFO or something, you can make a lot of cool stuff with a few CV connections...
Personality, if I was to have anything (and I haver barely scratched the surface) I would take more players...that could get really interesting and more 'modular' like for those of us who like that type of thing (a DAWless rack, Re-Birth for 2021!)

This should be temporary, as Reason "builds" the hi-res assets cache as you load each new device at a given zoom level. Try loading them all one time, and then restart Reason and see if the issue persists. It should go away once the hi-res assets are cached for any devices you want to load (note that you'll need to do this for any zoom level you choose, so if you tend to switch zoom levels a lot, be prepared for a similar lag until it's cached).mholloway wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 4:49 pm I upgraded to Reason 12 .. My main gripe is that there is a notable lag whenever I drag and drop items (instruments and effects) from the reason browser into the rack (both in the DAW and the rack plugin). I remember it being faster, before.... but there is notable 'pause' before the device actually appears. Just makes things feel a bit clunkier.

I know it's supposed to work like that, but I'm not sure it does? I keep R+ at 120% all the time and everytime I open it and drag stuff in - nothing new, the same stuff all the time mostly - it seems like it has this brief (but noticeable) pause before the devices are operational and the same repeats after flipping the rackEnochLight wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 5:29 pmThis should be temporary, as Reason "builds" the hi-res assets cache as you load each new device at a given zoom level. I'm running at 140% here (on 1080p panels):

Yeah it's nowhere near that smooth for me, even on subsequent, supposedly "cached" loadings.
Not sure what's up. I have it running on two systems -- a 2015 imac and a 2020 MacBookAir M1. The 'pause' happens on both machines.

No argument here, do what you please. But if you ask, as you did, why you'd want to use VSTs in a DAW that supports VSTs, my answer holds and is the obvious answer. <shrug>antic604 wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 4:54 pmI prefer to not use VSTs there if I don't have tomholloway wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 4:50 pmMaybe because it's a DAW with VST support, for starters.antic604 wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 4:46 pmSure, but why would I want to use VSTs in Reason?EnochLight wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 4:42 pmCan't many (if not most) of these just be used in Reason (DAW) as VST? I know Infiltrator has a VST2 option at least.![]()
Also, what kind of argument is that againt me preferring for Reason Studios to focus for a bit on FX/utilities instead of instruments? There's probably even more VST instruments than effects, so they shouldn't be making those either.

Hmmm... I don't think it runs native on M1 yet. But as far as your 2015 iMac - does it have an integrated GPU, or do you have a seperate graphics card (does your M1 use integrated or have a dedicated GPU)? I wonder if that has anything to do with it? No clue - just spitting ideas here. Maybe reach out to RS and report it as a bug?mholloway wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 6:00 pm Yeah it's nowhere near that smooth for me, even on subsequent, supposedly "cached" loadings.

But it clearly doesn't. Notice how 1st instantiation of Europa or Grain takes 3-4x longer than subsequent ones. That's what we're talking about.

Right, for context - I hadn't loaded Europa or Grain at that zoom level yet - so you could see what happens after the hi-res assets are cached. Watch the second video, friend. Also, even in the first video you can see they load fine after I loaded them once.antic604 wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 6:21 pmBut it clearly doesn't. I'm still not convinced it's fully OK.EnochLight wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 6:30 pmRight, for context - I hadn't loaded Europa or Grain at that zoom level yet - so you could see what happens after the hi-res assets are cached. I just created a project where I dragged in all RS REs, flipped the rack around, scrolled up & down. Saved it.
When I opened it after quitting Reason, it struggled to scroll through the Rack all the way down for the 1st time, then - up - it was smooth as butter. Flipping the rack caused a 2-3 seconds pause, after that it scrolled fine.
Not a deal breaker for sure, but I can see how people see it as buggy.

Hey - can you post that project so I can test on my system as well? I mean, assuming it's just a blank project?antic604 wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 6:43 pmI'm still not convinced it's fully OK.EnochLight wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 6:30 pmRight, for context - I hadn't loaded Europa or Grain at that zoom level yet - so you could see what happens after the hi-res assets are cached.
