Has anyone else encounered this... or know of a solution?

I have my iPad connected to my Macbook Pro via a USB hub (not with camera connectin kit which I intend to get soon) and have iPad enabled in Audio Midi Set. In Animoog I have In and Out set to IDAM Midi Host. When I then set up the iPad as an External Instrument device in Abelton I loose control of the app knobs. They are very erractic and will jump from 0 to 10 and are not smooth as usual. If I delete the Abelton device the knobs go back to normal.

I know I can CC these knobs but it's annoying that I can't control as normal from the app.

Never experienced this.
Do you have a MID loop occurring?
Do you need MIDI out?
Have you assigned controls in Animoog that are being triggered by something in your DAW?

BTW, you don’t/can’t use a CCK to connect iPad to a Mac. And if you use a hub the iPad won’t hold charge. In my experience, IDAM only works properly/reliably with a direct to Mac USB connection

Thanks Vaultnaemsae. I will try connecting directly to the USB port on the MBP. As for midi loop etc, i'm don't know! I have the midi expansion pack. It all seems to work fine other than the knobs.

I was thinking of the CCK so I can connect and power it the same time. My hub has a section for powering devices.

I should add, my experience is only with iPads with the lightning connection. Maybe somebody who has experience with USB-C devices can chime in on that? But I kind of expect it will be the same situation.

Are you using Animoog as a synth or a controller for your DAW?

If it’s as a synth, I’d suggest to try turning off the MIDI out in Animoog’s settings and retesting.

(OMG...I need to google what an IDAM Connection is...)

I'm using it as both a synth and a controller. I have had the Moog apps for years but i'm only getting around to using them now.

Gave Model d and 15 a spin last night and the knobs were fine. They all work as synths controlled from my Microfreak and as controllers for recording midi and automation into Ableton from a USB hub into my Macbook.

Something strange... if I use a sequencer in Ableton this disables any CC mapped to the knobs BUT the knobs then revert back to their smooth behaviour (ie, not jerky and erratic in Animoog).

Inter Device Audio MIDI - Connect your iPad etc with the docking cable to the Mac (only) and use it like an external hardware synth.

Gives you 1x1 MIDI and 2 audio channels (stereo) to the Mac.

Also, i can't get over how GOOD these apps sound.
