You are right about Kore- it still works really quite well. I still use it, not daily, but often. It was the pinnacle of N.I's creativity, since then it's variations on a theme.ShawnG wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 8:31 pmYou haven’t invested a thing. You bought 3 products that all still work. I've never tried using the Continuum with VST's. Now it is packed up for selling as I don't need the Continuum and Osmose. So cannot try it out to see. I'll make a report once I have Osmose in hand.Ploki wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 8:03 pm Couldnt you just assign initial pressure to any CC and assign that in a synth?
My understanding from other Continuum users is it doesn't work well. Not enough resolution and no place to assign that can control the gain per voice.

I have nothing against it, but until it’s released and I see that it’s durability holds up, then I’m not interested. Again this is just my opinion and I have nothing against those that are either excited or have already made a pre-order.
I've had my pre-order in since day 1. Absolutely I am taking a risk. Got a steep discount for taking that risk though.
For all I know, 6 months after receiving the Osmose, keys could be falling off left and right!![]()

It's funny how perspective changes opinion. You see the Osmose as expensive but for me it seems cheap cause it is half the price of a Continuum (which I own).![]()

Kinda surprised nobody has created a touchscreen software MPE fully programmable keyboard yet, suggested it to Image-Line a while ago as an upgrade to their touch controller. They didn't think touchscreen would take off?
Ultimately wouldn't have aftertouch pushing inwards on pressed keys anyway, but after a key press simply move fingers to any of 4 directions then either side to side or up/down to adjust whichever aspect of the sound we want to change.
Can we start a gofundme for free advertising?

IMO it's good to have a solid perspective on the downsides to software.ShawnG wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 8:31 pmYou haven’t invested a thing. You bought 3 products that all still work. At some point Kore will not run on a modern OS, in the case of Mac OS that's already true, and I would bet there are dozens of configurations, upgrades to the DAW etc. that are breaking Kore on windows. the choice will be old computer clutter for Kore or to abandon it.
NI like many companies at some point depreciates old hardware and software. There are companies that do not do this if they can help it. So the choice is more nuanced than either extreme.

Awesome, hadn't heard of it - pretty much what I was thinking just need it on desktops and other platforms now and why not make it change colours to play along to MIDI and they're safe. If they can add this functionality to Equator2 I'd be delighted.Ploki wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 9:49 pm There was a roli app that worked with iphone’s now discontinued 3D touch, so it actually had all 5 dimensions of touch somehow.
It was called seaboard 5D
A shame Image-Line gave up on their mobile MIDI controller over android issues, hopefully they pursue it again.

yes. and the same goes for most modern hardware which usually relies on software in tandem. which is why you should not ever look on any of these things as investments. purchase them, enjoy them, use them as long as you can, they will be gone someday.machinesworking wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 9:52 pmIMO it's good to have a solid perspective on the downsides to software.ShawnG wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 8:31 pmYou haven’t invested a thing. Baked in software doesn't go away though. You don't really update a workstation the way you do a computer. If you're talking about Roli I get it, but that's part of the point, Roli and a few others have brainless hardware. Even NI have items now that don't require a computer, the Komplete keyboards have some autonomy.ShawnG wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 10:22 pm yes. and the same goes for most modern hardware which usually relies on software in tandem. which is why you should not ever look on any of these things as investments. purchase them, enjoy them, use them as long as you can, they will be gone someday.
It's just a good idea to know what you're getting into, that's all.

Kore 2 might still work, but 100% certain that many modern plug ins reliably crash it. Plus Kore 1 does not work, at least the audio interface part is hosed.pinki wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 10:33 pmKore works fine on Mac OS.machinesworking wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 9:52 pm

I think the only area where we differ on this issue is that I'm ok with the ephemeral non-permanent nature of it all and you aren't?machinesworking wrote: Mon Sep 06, 2021 10:46 pm

yes, you should be aware of the fact that whatever you buy in this software based arena isn't something you can hold your arms tight around forever. even so, there are probably ways that I could make all of my now defunct software purchases work if I really wanted to.
my main points were these:
purchases aren't investments
don't rely on anything lasting forever.
enjoy what you want/need without worrying about the last point.
to cycle around to the issue at hand which is ROLI (my only "loss" in this is GEIST and a few expansions, they cycled BFD over to InMusic). Obviously there was terrible business management at play here, and an overestimation of demand, but this is fairly common in this industry. I would rather a company make innovative products and burn out, rather than play it safe and boring. Now, sure it would be the greatest if you had an innovative company that was run by competent businesspeople, but that doesn't happen all the time. If you bought a seaboard and love it, rejoice. it is a thing that exists.

Let’s look at the giants of synthesis. Moog… ARP… Oberheim… what do they have in common? They all failed miserably after a pretty short time. All made super dumb business moves, but time heals all wounds, eh? We forget that Bob Moog went back to selling theramin kits after he tanked Moog music.
Roli made something amazing. Thank the FSM they took a chance on their idea. I use my Rise 49 every day. It’s beautiful and well crafted. Did they make mistakes? Yes. Did they overestimate how their products would gain market share. Hell yes.
To all the haters, go back to your sh!tty Linnstruments that evidently no one can actually play well. Tell your self how you made the right choice as you clumsily tap the too small squares and produce terrible music*. Roger Linn’s never made a bad product, so you’re on the right side of history. (Cough, cough, Linn 9000, cough)
*to be fair, I’ve heard one good performance on a Linnstrument.
