What makes you think that? All the things added to Reason since v9 (that don't also help Rack Plugin) can be counted on one hand and would be a single point update in most other DAWs. Clip cross-fades, curved automation, zoom dependant grid, mutli-clip editing, ability to adjust multiple faders at once. I think that's it? This hardly encourages a view they plan to substantially invest in the DAW, if they haven't for the last 5 years...Arashi wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 4:50 pmAlso, they’re obviously not getting rid of the standalone app, ever. I don’t know why people keep floating that nonsense idea.

It's far more than an informed guess - software development is planned out much farther than 4-5 months in advance of release - it's not like these guys are new at their job. Everything you see listed as "in development" were planned and on the road map a long time ago.jens wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:19 pm Neither December nor January is "a month or two" (in fact January is 2-4 times as much as "a month or two")![]()

- besides I don't think any of us here can in any way estimate which feature takes them how long to code. Even if some of us had a) the required coding competence and b) deep insight into their code, we still would not know how many coders are exactly working for how many hours a week on which feature. So I think you can't even make an informed guess here, just a... guess, you know?!
Because we've been told countless times by RS themselves that they aren't abandoning the standalone DAW, and they just announced VST3 is coming to the standalone DAW - that's not something they would do if they didn't plan on keeping it as an actual product.

Reasons development team have been working under social distancing restrictions, so things have been slower than usual.... it would be rather difficult for them to do what they intended at the Klara shelter in Stockholm.

Pretty sure that's in reference to the things "under investigation". The things listed in "under development" are 100% coming.vurt wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:32 pm i think people may have had more faith, had you not stated "a plan, not a promise".

Actions speak louder than words. And so far with 12/+ the DAW features are either incomplete (transition to HD) or sacrificed for the Rack Plugin's benefit (removal of insert knobs+buttons in the Mixer, much wider rack columns, extra empty vertical space in mix channels, weird "combi in combi" for inserts). That clearly shows their priorities.EnochLight wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:28 pmBecause we've been told countless times by RS themselves that they aren't abandoning the standalone DAW, and they just announced VST3 is coming to the standalone DAW - that's not something they would do if they didn't plan on keeping it as an actual product.

We're not discussing priorities, though - we're discussing the fact that the standalone DAW has not been abandoned, and proof being more standalone DAW features are actively in development. But if you'd like to move the goal posts of the subject, go for it!antic604 wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 7:17 pm Actions speak louder than words. Oh, I'm not expecting them to stop shipping the DAW altogether, but at this pace it will be worth to upgrade from 11 perhaps at 13 or 14. That's "abandoned" for meEnochLight wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 7:31 pmWe're not discussing priorities, though - we're discussing the fact that the standalone DAW has not been abandoned, and proof being more standalone DAW features are actively in development. I think I'll refresh/add to what I knew by reading an old book I bought many years ago to learn Reason 4. It's: "Power Tool for Reason 3" by Kurt Kurasaki.
Strange! That most if not all information still applied! Anyway, I like the old clever way of connecting things to overcome some limitations. Not needed much that loading any vsti would solve it, but I believe they are essential techniques to take advantage of the modular nature of Reason

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I upgraded today - mainly to get the increased size as synths like Parsec which I love I wasn't using as much now I have a retina display as they just came out so tiny. I'm finding 140% is fine for me, just increases size enough for usability without extra scrolling.
So far I'm finding playback is fine in terms of CPU, but some instruments are taking longer to load and also to load/change patches
I really can't see any significant changes to the browser - weren't there supposed to be some? (I know more are to come). It still does annoying things like jump back to the top of the devices list every time I load something else and it has lost my favourites folder (you'd think if they want the browser to be 'smarter' they would have an actual favourites function by now).
Zoom for rack devices really needs to be decoupled from the transport, maybe different areas could have their own zoom settings or options to exclude from being zoomed perhaps? I don't need a big ass transport taking up extra space (even when it gets HiRes graphics) and tbh the sequencer I am also happy to be 100%, although the mixer would look better larger.
I was pleasantly surprised to see all my Res got hires graphics, even obsolete ones like the Cakewalk Amp I got yonks ago for free, but some of them don't seem to be 100% HiRes (eg I got one of those cheapo Mixfood wavetable synths in a sale and some of the text is still blurry but it's crap anyway really so I'm unlikely to use it and will probably delete it).

Some of the stuff is slated for October and November, which is a month or two. As they said in their own update, these are plans, not promises, and plans change, but they would not even suggest any of these things will be done within the next couple months if they had just started. I've been a software developer for over 20 years, so it is in fact an educated guess.jens wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 6:19 pm Neither December nor January is "a month or two" (in fact January is 2-4 times as much as "a month or two")![]()
