Sub-Standard DAW Releases - Where Do You Cross The Line ?

DAWs seems like a minefield from a users perspective... Traditionally, when we've walked into a shop to buy a piece of software, we expect it to work as expected. Now it seems we as users are from the moment we buy and install the software, are basically entering the arena as a beta tester, except we don't get paid for it.
Whether users should be awarded anything is another thing, but in any case, just what are your limits in an acceptable level of stability and bugs that may hamper your natural flow in doing what you want to achieve ? At what point do you say, I'm getting the f-out of here, what's your limits ?
For users of multiple DAWs, it's really not so much of an issue, but it will be if you have invested years in just one DAW. It's interesting that DAW developers are really not interested in selling you previous versions of software, they want you to buy a bug ridden block of cheese instead.
In my experience of the early - mid /2000's some DAWs like Sonar that you'd find on a CM coverdisk simply didn't work or if it did, it crashed almost instantly. The cost of a magazine wasn't so bad, but it didn't fill me with optimism with ever purchasing the real thing.
Software developers these days also feel the requirement to use data gathering mechanisms to track what is happening with your / their software. Much of that, of which we are probably oblivious to, should we even care, but I always feel when I see it, an unnerving feeling of invasiveness and a like yeah, what do I get for that information you collect...? A better product, possibly...I'd hope.
If we take the case with Reason Studio's, it's totally weird. They release a product, not when it's finished but when it's in a state that's no better than what it was when it was in beta. You can try and argue that all software has bugs on release, even Studio One has a few pages on it's release...
Another question is whether it's better to buy software that's near the end of the cycle and to not bother upgrading again for years later.
You might have given up waiting... and that would be reason enough to walk.
Maybe we should lower our expectations about what we expect from DAWs.

One of the big reasons I use Bitwig is because it is the most stable DAW I have ever used.
If for some reason I were to try out a new DAW, and it crashed even once in the first hour of testing, I'd delete it right there.

When a DAW invokes rants, sobbing, agony and trolling like above, I know I got the right one. If it ain’t Reason, I am getting the F out and that’s the line, sweetheart

I think Reason 12 is the 1st DAW upgrade I havent participated in on day one - so there's the line.
And that's a combination of multiple factors, ranging from doubts I have about their commitment to the DAW itself, through some bad decisions with how they implemented new things to actually the scope of those new things mostly being useless for me... Since 2017 this never happened for any of the DAWs that I own. But I remain optimistic, especially seeing the roadmap that was published.

I suppose my frustration tolerance is a bit higher than all that. and I have issues
Spend the time on problem solving maybe, in place of all this... stuff.
"You can try and argue that all software has bugs on release," we can try and argue reality? jesus
Cubase has bugs it oughn't have in my estimation (unforced errors) and I personally think Steinberg's culture has lost its way, but the last year has been my best in music. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

as long as I am able to talk with the devs directly on the image line forums and fixes comes from daily bases, like the Waves crashing was yesterday https://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic. ... 0&t=263487 I'm pretty happy
btw. quite nice that the FLS crash report tool is able to open a private topic in the image line tech forum with the actual issue which goes to the public area if/after the issue is solved
well played

Buggy DAW releases are there to be more exciting.

I used to upgrade my main software as soon as it was released. Now stability is more important to me. I don't have a hard line but I update once the majority of the outrage settles down and there is an update sale going on.

i dont upgrade for the sake of upgrading
if the new version includes a feature that sounds interesting to me, then ill probably upgrade. if it offers 500 new features, but none interest me (unlikely i know) then id wait till the next update, and so on.
