Just wanted to let you all know AmpliTube 5 has been updated to 5.1. This mostly adds the virtual X-GEAR pedals (which are free with their hardware equivalent or available for purchase on their own) which is a great way to try the algorithms without having the actual pedal in front of you.

What's new in AmpliTube 5.1
  • Added virtual X-GEAR pedals for demo and purchase in AmpliTube 5 via the Custom Shop including X-DRIVE, X-VIBE, X-TIME and X-SPACE.
  • Spillover is now implemented in all reverb and delay effects (the effect's tail persists when the gear is bypassed).

X-GEAR pedals

The thing that I was never clear on that’s even more confusing now is: what’s the difference between the distortion pedal models in the X-Drive and those same models in Amplitube 5? I believe press release for the pedals called out new delays and reverb algorithms but made no mention of new or enhanced distortion or modulation algos. So if one owned AT5 Max and checked out the X-Drive would there be anything truly new for that user outside of the experience of consolidating those different pedals into one? Same for the X-Vibe. Not trying to be a wise ass, or gotcha journalist, just really want to know if there are updated models here.

Were the buttons on the Brit Silver fixed?

I don't think so, unless you'd consider that a "general reliability improvement" (I mean, it could be, but I think they'd call that out). Here are the full 5.1 release notes...
Changes from version 5.0.3:

What’s new
New X-GEAR pedals are now available in AmpliTube 5 and purchasable via Custom Shop. Including: X-DRIVE, X-VIBE, X-TIME and X-SPACE.
Spillover is now implemented in all reverb and delay effects (the effect’s tail persists when the gear is bypassed).
Improvements
General reliability improvements.

They are new algorithms, they just utilize the new AT5 tech.
16 all-new overdrive and distortion effects leveraging IK’s latest AmpliTube technologies, accompanied by an exclusive virtual X-GEAR version of the exact same effects.

16 pedals in one, each a bit over $9 each (sorry that you get taxed more heavily than us Yanks do). Or... free with the actual pedals.

Yep, prices are crazy here. Plus no all pedals virtual bundle discount or anything like that if you want all 4. I'd imagine there won't be many purchases for either the virtual ones or the hard ware versions considering the pricing. I mean, didn't anybody at IK look and notice that there is something called Helix Stomp that provides excellent value. It isn't 2005 any more.

Peter, thanks for sharing! I myself am eager to test drive the new pedals. All of the new stuff is a nice step forward in realism.

For what it's worth, I feel like I discovered a hidden gem in Amplitube 5. Placing the Rox Varidiode + in front of distorted amps really gives them another gear and more of that "in your face" and alive sound from hearing the original amp heads. New secret weapon!

Looking forward to checking out all the new IK goodies :hyper:

Or you can look at it like this: $600 to own the 4 pedals within amplitube5. Amplitube5 max costs the same, which offers over 400 gear models... I'm not one to argue prices, but this is just insane pricing.

These aren't in AmpliTube 5 MAX... And again, you can get them free with the hardware pedals and these are a great way to demo those pedals while you don't have access to them. If $9 and change per algorithm isn't a value to you, that's cool we understand. :)

Nice tip. Try also putting the EQ 81 at the end of the chain, even without touching it except to balance the level if necessary. Another nice way to get some great tone. Jason Sadites, I believe, is the one who likes to do the same but to push the input and pull back the output on the 81 but both types of 81 use/abuse can kick up your tone.
