There, I said it.

Some of their earlier releases fell short of the mark but they seem to have upped their game in recent times.
Perhaps they have better coders these days?
3 years ago I would have agreed but nowdays Arturia is absolute top notch. :)
I like many of their plugins, and not only the synths. I know they updated the code for the Mini and Jup-8 V which is great, but I am not sure if they did that with any of the other older plugins.
All of them have gotten updates. This is one of the reasons I am liking this company. Keeping their back catalog relevant is important to me. Too many developers release, update and forget.
Yep, I know there have been some updates for them all, but I meant like with Jup-8 V which was totally reworked from scratch and the filter section in the Mini V.

I can't be 100% certain but my observations are that from V Collection 5 the engines are more CPU efficient and more pleasing to my ears than earlier versions. Arturia indicated that they made changes to the engines and to the guis of course. I can't say that it is night and day although I agree that the Mini is competitive to the Ni Monark now and it wasn't quite there in the earlier versions. I have a couple of Moogs here. I keep Versions 4 installed for Spark and the more recent collection is getting most of the use here.

I see an opportunity to improve on SQ8L if Arturia breaks out the programming interface in the advanced area as it did with the DX7. Also, SQ8L doesn't expose its parameters for DAW automation/midi mapping.

As a physical ESQ-1 user, I've been following a current thread on the Ensoniq email listserv (remember those?) in which some users *may* have identified a filter capacitor in the ESQ/SQ80 circuit that's designed to roll off the low end, probably to eliminate issues with subsonic frequencies. It appears the rolloff point *may* be a little high, which might explain a certain tinniness often attributed to Ensoniq. If that turns out to be true, it would be interesting if Arturia allowed the virtual disabling of that global filter via an advanced switch.

All of them have gotten updates. This is one of the reasons I am liking this company. Keeping their back catalog relevant is important to me. Too many developers release, update and forget. Universal Audio is about the worst and I am slowly abandoning them despite a significant amount of tied up cash in hardware and plugins. Ongoing development with something that you use is really appreciated. IK has been doing the same lately. Both companies have impressed me enough in software that I am using their hardware now.
Arturia are updating the older synths and the n ew GUI's are really nice. I also like this fact. You mention UA - I bought into UAD just before they went to UAD-2. Luckily there is still a market for used cards and plugins. :hihi: I've never liked dongles much.

UAD doesn’t make dongles. They make audio interfaces with built in effects processors. Oh, and stand alone pedal effects.

A new GUI doesn't make something sound better

Correct. It just makes people *think* it sounds better...

Dunno about top notch, but, their stuff certainly got better. Pigments is pretty nice, for example, even though the filters are lacklustre. They also did some nice fx plugins. I wouldn't say they are top of the line, but, they're definitely better than they used to be.

I also think they're doing a great job with their hardware. Their controllers seem to be very popular, and well built.

Yeah, it's always better to play a live show hauling a laptop and interface, or desktop computer, mouse, and display monitor rather than those cumbersome keyboards. Computers NEVER break down!

Storage space is not an option? Floppy disks and carts are a figment of the imagination?

Good ****ing grief.

Scotty wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 7:55 am I am hoping that they somehow get access to the Ensoniq kingdom so that they can do the DP/4 and the EPS. Pretty much anything that Arturia has done in the last 4 or 5 years has been well received.
Thanks for pointing this out, I've skipped a deal on one 2 years ago, and since then some good videos appeared with this unit. VFX and Fizmo were also talked about earlier - this shouldn't be too far away, would also make sense to involve these VLSI chip stuff.

Nevertheless I'm eagerly waiting for the SQ-80. I like how Arturia did the CZ V, DX7 and Vocoder V. I consider them quite fun to use, and I am convinced they will also do their best with this one.
Much better than lugging around a hw synth and keeping it alive especially when storage space is not an option.

Literally nobody in this thread asserted otherwise.

I have 4 uad-1 cards, Uad-2 : two quads , two duos and a solo that function as dongles. I also have an Apollo quad ... now that is an interface. UA are behind the 8 ball in almost every respect now. I don’t even use their plugins except for unison pres with Apollo .

It depends. Are you one of 'the kids'?

But seriously, pretending laptops/desktop computers are easier, better, stronger than a keyboard...
Now THAT'S ****ing rich!
