Hey! I really enjoy the lo fi setting on the hall of fame 2 reverb pedal. I've been cranking it up and using it as an effect. However, I think it would be more convenient to use a reverb in VST form. Does anyone have ideas for something that will get me in a similar terrority?

Here's a what the effect sounds like:

I took a look at the TonePrint settings and it's got diffusion turned all the way down, so it acts like the earliest digital reverbs (graininess). It also boosts and colors the higher frequencies. However, it has some modulation applied which would make an impulse response lacking though it could be an option if you capture it with the modulation turned off then simply add a vibrato after your convolution plugin (or use built-in modulation if you're using something like Reverberate 2).

If you're intent on replicating it in another plugin then the first plugin I thought of is BYOME since it's very flexible and has a "Lo-Fi Reverb" based on Schroeder algorithms. There are many Schroeder reverb matrices implemented over the years so Unfiltered Audio did it justice by providing 10 "tunings". I used the Chowning tuning, set Predelay to 7ms, Gain at 72%, Decay to taste, Damp at 0% (we want those high frequencies!) and Mix at 100%. We need Mix at 100% because we still need to modulate only the reverb signal.

To do so add Vibrato after the reverb. Reverb modulation is generally slower than you'd want on most instruments, I set it to 1.71 Hz, and rate mode set to Low. You only want a touch for instability but not noticeable, noticeable only if it's not there, so I set Depth to 4.8%. Mix is at 100% since we want only the reverb signal.

Now tweak parameters to taste and use BYOME master mix to bring the input signal back in.

If you don't have BYOME than apply similar settings to suitable reverbs. For example, ValhallaVintageVerb's Room algorithm has the right capabilities. Set PreDelay to 7ms, Decay to taste, open up high frequency damping to max, lower the bassmult to ~half. You really wanna boost the highs. Turn diffusion for both early and late reflections off to 0%, lower modulation rate to ~1.4 Hz, and depth to ~8%. Open up the highcut to 20khz, and set color to 1970's. Nice and grainy with sheen!

Pretty much any reverb where you can set predelay, has a grainy room algorithm, can disable diffusion, can boost highs, and modulate gently, you're good. If you don't have a reverb that can do the all of that than add EQ, distortion, vibrato, etc. plugin after it and put the reverb chain on a send for parallel processing. What's most important is a grainy algorithm with no diffusion.

I remember seeing TC Hall Of Fame impulses in Audiothing Fog Convolver, and i believe they had all the modes including the Lofi, but only one impulse each mode so you only have one pedal setting fo each mode . You can demo it (3 seconds silence every 45 seconds).

TC Hall of Fame impulse pack, not sure if the Lofi is included or not. $5/Euros
