Pretty good that one. :)

If you have a host that allows for modulation of parameters with an envelope follower (Bitwig, ableton, FL) take a clipper with variable softness and have the softness increase fast with the input signal and then set a slower release time ( usually ten-a hundred times the attack) and start fiddling with that setup. Gclip is a good testing ground. Once you see how this works and how you can filter the sidechain to make it frequency dependent and discover how neat it can be, then you can go to a freely drawable curve waveshaper.
This sort of thing is very under rated. This is gold in terms of getting a unique dynamic sound.

Guitar players can setup so that they 'play' into a distortion and have control over exactly which notes will distort and break up. This is much less easy on synths.

303 was great as it had an accent that pushed the volume and allow this distortion on louder notes to make things more interesting. Whilst you can use velocity, for some sounds, it won't work for all. Automating volume in to a distortion can also so nice things, but may need to be compressed or automated after to get the volume levels right.

But - yes - this is gold for getting good tones! :-D

I’m just thinking outloud, but if you change “shape” in a basic manner with dynamics (i.e clip edge), aren’t you simply changing the waveshaping curve that could be drawn static anyway?

Some other methods would maybe be more “analogue” such as changing bias/emphasis dynamically

Would second the 2 Klanghelms. Very lovely.

Some plugins like jsCompShaper change the whole waveform (including parts near zero), after going above threshold (in some interpolated manner near the knee). It's different from a static waveshaping that only chops tops and bottoms. I assume these guys are doing something similar, but manually.

Maybe these? https://www.kuassa.com/products/efektor ... on-bundle/

I like them a lot, but they aren't subtle.

Really happy with goodhertz Tupe. Not a whole lot of CPU for the sound you’re getting. Going to be on every channel from here on out.

Don't wanna add a new thread for this question so might as well ask here : anyone knows of saturation plugins with either mid low high controls, spècific frequences saturation, or multiband? So far I've only found the free SGA plugins (Code red and 1566), Audio assault's Freakq, and GMH Wavedestroyer. (also Squashman for Reaper users)

Should be free, I guess? Cause Saturn would be your choice of not, also Ozone is Multiband saturation and Spectre.
