Not quite. Ableton vocoder is pretty eff'n good quality. You can getst a great tone when you can use your own source cuz you can choose the wave and the unison, other vocoders you're stuck wit a default shit tone + the formant on ableton doesn't kill the tone like some other'z do

Totally agree with you. I'm not saying Abletons vocoder is bad. Just that different synths have different feel to them. As do cars & vocoders (haha... that's a great title for an album btw - Cars & Vocoders

I really like Zynaptiq plugins, they sound amazing and they all have a special spice other plugins dont have. Now, I only hope Zynaptiq is healthy and fine, their lack of news and developpements over the last few years make me worry. Really hope they gonna rebounce with other fantastic plugins. But I would not bet on that tbh…

Rather often lately I'm wondering what Zynaptiq is up to these days. Not just about the OV but all their other products. It seems the only mails I'm getting from them are about sales. When/what was the latest thing Z released?

The difference is that Soundtoys has never (I don't think) announced a Soundtoys 6, so it's not like they've failed to deliver something they said was coming. By contrast, Zynaptiq announced (and made a demo promo video for!) OV4 over four years ago. It's a bit mind boggling.

Yes - although to be fair they solved the serial number situation.

tbh it started working again when they acquired it, so "held hostage" is a bit rough.
Before they've taken it hostage, it simply disappeared. I had a license for Myriad and i was lucky that i found the license file on a backup, because a lot of people simply didn't have a working piece of software anymore and couldn't download any version of it from anywhere.

I’d like to make a bold (and yes, baseless) prediction:

They’re being acquired by Apple.

I’m only half joking, but they seem like a perfect target to complement the Logic ecosystem. And if you’re a relatively small developer like Zynaptiq, it would be pretty tempting.

Yeah - but that could be said about lots of cool developers as well.
Soundtoys for example. But damn I would be sad if they would join the borg-Apple-cube.
