If they redid the CS-80 sound and redesigned that horrendous interface the same way they did to the Jupiter, I'd be interested.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun Sep 12, 2021 6:38 amI think one of the new products will likely be a rewrite of an existing synth like they did with the Jupiter. Hopefully the CS-80.DrGonzo wrote: Sun Sep 12, 2021 5:46 am Extremely excited about finally getting an Ensoniq in software form.
What other old synth do you guys think we will be getting this year from Arturia?
Arturia SQ 80 V

Their CPU consumption lately has gotten a little much for some of the synths they are emulating, especially some of these digital one like the DX7 and the casio.EvilDragon wrote: Tue Sep 14, 2021 4:39 pm Gosh that's definitely too much. What the hell are they doing in that code...

Yup, very much so. I wonder if it's their UI toolkit, but since CPU doesn't go down when plugin UI is closed, I am not sure. They wouldn't be that daft to process all of UI while it's closed, right? RIGHT?!

If so it's perhaps by design, rather than error. Their GUI's, despite often being complex, recall instantly. Contrast that with something like Korg's Triton Extreme plugin, for example, where you'll wait many seconds (probably upwards of 6, depending on your system) for it to show up - creating a slow clunky user experience. I find the recall delay annoying enough that I've started to avoid using it BTW.EvilDragon wrote: Tue Sep 14, 2021 4:55 pm Yup, very much so. It would be a nice user option for Arturia to have though, if that's their reasoning.. so you can choose between more responsive or less CPU (but with a delay in recall.. )

Playing with it right now, I can only say, try it yourself
Performance is ok, no massive lag like with the old collection 6.
Very lackey on the presets though.

Did you get the two free banks yet? Adds quite a bit of content.Bulbizarre wrote: Tue Sep 14, 2021 5:45 pm Playing with it right now, I can only say, try it yourself

Arturia sounds more 3d and harmonically rich in those comparisons. Buying this as I type. Really liking Arturias latest synths, especially Jun-6V.

I am very impressed.
They managed to capture the spirit of the SQ80 quite well.
Yes it can demand some CPU but then I don't remember the old SQ8L having polyphonic unison or built in FX. Could be wrong it's been a long time since I played the SQ8L.
Arturia has even included the hidden ESQ and SQ80 waves and some Transwaves.
It's dead easy to program with the synthesis page. An order of magnitude easier than programming from the hardware. I'm a half dozen patches in already.
The nice suite of FX and simple Arp add to the original. Very well done Arturia and that's coming from someone who has not exactly been a fanboi.....
On a functional note has anyone found that turning on/off the individual Oscs sometimes doesn't work? I've had to click them on/off a second time on a few occasions. Perhaps a bug that slipped thorough?

The CPU usage is not ideal, but then I have an older machine. The usage is still better than i.e. Diva (at least for me), plus I figure on a better computer it will be just fine.
