The free protools, unfortunately, is considered (and is) a joke compared to the TDM based real thing. The two are hardly comparable in a professional environment, even if the UIs resemble each other.

No protools and steinberg bashing was intended. TDM based Protools and Nuendo 3 are both great apps.

I have always questioned the price policy on "proffesional" apps. Same situation with say MS Visual Studio.. costs as much as a new car. I mean come on. Are they really surprised that piracy is rampant, even among companies?

You can't say that and it doesn't justify piracy. There are alternatives to MS Visual Studio... Unless you need all the database stuff and make money out of it, you can work with the free command line compiler and use another affordable GUI.

And Nuendo and Protools, unless you are a studio and make money out of it (and clients require it), there are many alternatives.
I bet that I could do any job done in Nuendo with Sonar 4.

Also with the Nuendo price you get some bugs for free... I remember a thread in the Nuendo forums about a terrible bug with the panning law... The nuendo people are not going to fix it only at the next patch.

Ya, why not compare apples with oranges. ;) Nuendo is a totally different league than Tracktion.

I was thinking :o What if software devs were to get royalty cheques from record companies that used their creations ,, would that offset the cost of ,,say ,,Nuendo,,$2500,,,sheesh!!!!!

Exactly!

Tracktion is actually Craption, and mackie couldn't sell them so are throwing them around fro free now otu of desperation for publicity

You're just trying to push buttons! But... you won't get ME, no sir...

You..

won't...

get...

m.. YOU ROTTEN BASTARD, YOU TAKE THAT BACK! :x :x

In all seriousness, it IS like apples and oranges, though. Much as I love Tracktion, Nuendo is aimed at a very different consumer. I think the price is pretty high, but I guess if they made it rock-stable and bug-free it'd be worthwhile for a true multimedia studio. The home user would have to be insane to buy it, though.

nice one. also the import/export options in nuendo definitely are a LOT of work. and you get the networking feature. and the GUI-design is much nicer :)

What crack users? The current generation of Steinberg dongles has never been broken. On another thread someone said, not since Hypersonic 1.1. Whatever problems there are, aren't being caused by crack users because there aren't any on SX3.

Just look around the web... it's not even that hard to find I think.
And hell NO, please don't ask me where to find it (not directed at you, HanafiH)! I allready had such PMs, but sorry, I DON'T support cracks!
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Sascha, I wouldn't ask you for a Steinberg brochure, let alone a location for a download. But this is important news. There's been no matching furore on the Cubase forums to this effect, and only a few weeks ago some people were crowing about the invincibility of the new dongles. Was it all fiction? And why do Steinberg think their position is strong enough to push Nuendo into low end Pro Tools prices (which after the hardware it is getting close) when there's nothing but a fig leaf to nail the user base down after the debacles of Nuendo 2. Doesn't add up somehow.

To add my 2 cents to this discussion: we can all discuss about the price policy of every company, but I'd like to ask: how many people here in this topic actually use nuendo and why did they choose nuendo over cubase. I mean, everybody should know what does he need a program for. Personally, I use Cubase SL2 and there is hardly anything what I would need from the "big brother" SX2. SL fits perfectly my needs, I can record and edit audio and midi, the expanded mixer is absolutely not a deal breaker for me (you can press the edit button and see all the needed features on a track) and I don't need surround. The price is 25% of Nuendo. What is this discussion about? If you are a real pro and you make (hopefully) good money with your music or studio, I guess you can earn the money for nuendo by recording 3-4 songs, less or more. You will pay the same money for good monitors, soundcard or a high quality external processor. We shouldn't care about how much something costs if we don't need it or if we even don't know what will we get over the cheaper products. I guess there are a lot of people using nuendo because of some image reasons. I can only laugh on them. Often they even don't know the difference between cubase and nuendo but they use hardly more then 50% of the features that are also implemented in cubase.
Cracks have nothing to do with the price. It is a mental problem that people are not aware that they are stealing. I have seen a lot of crackuser that have a legal version of a sequencer but also cracks from waves plugins. We all would probably also agree that the waves plugins are overpriced but there are also a lot cheaper and similar high quality plugs that can substitute the waves. How many of us are able to hear the difference between a waves c1 compressor and the one from sonalksis, voxengo or sonitus?
