I'm just waiting for someone to build a plugin that runs a full Windows 95 PC emulation just so we can load ReBirth and old discontinued plugins like NI Pro-53 into any current DAW (the latter has actually made a comeback recently as "Poly Synth" in Maschine, though it only has a generic interface).AdvancedFollower wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 1:02 pm It's a bit early though, as the "nostalgia factor" seems to kick in when a synth is around 30 years old. It used to be that people only wanted emulations of the Minimoog, Jupiter 8, Prophet 5, OB-X etc. but now emulations of late 80's / early 90's ROMplers are becoming more popular. Give it another 5-8 years and people will be all over the aliased, lo-fi sound of a virtual analog running on an underpowered Motorola chip.
Arturia V Collection 9. Predictions?

is "virtual PC" still a thing? i used to work for a company that had a DOS based program for all it's patient charts and database. it ran inside virtual PC which was running inside Win2K Pro. might've been WinXP in there too. i can't remember. but it worked perfectly.Arashi wrote: Fri Aug 27, 2021 2:09 amI'm just waiting for someone to build a plugin that runs a full Windows 95 PC emulation just so we can load ReBirth and old discontinued plugins like NI Pro-53 into any current DAW (the latter has actually made a comeback recently as "Poly Synth" in Maschine, though it only has a generic interface).AdvancedFollower wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 1:02 pm It's a bit early though, as the "nostalgia factor" seems to kick in when a synth is around 30 years old. i think by now they've probably got 1 or 2 more levels of russian doll nesting of OS.

It was, yeah — Connectix Virtual PC emulated PC hardware on a Mac, and could run DOS, Windows, or Linux (and I guess you could use it on other platforms as well?). And it will probably become a thing again, since Apple is now moving to its own silicon and will no longer be able to run Windows and other operating systems natively.dayjob wrote: Fri Aug 27, 2021 3:20 am is "virtual PC" still a thing? i used to work for a company that had a DOS based program for all it's patient charts and database. it ran inside virtual PC which was running inside Win2K Pro. might've been WinXP in there too. i can't remember. but it worked perfectly.
I used to use Virtual PC to test websites in Windows browsers. After Apple switched to Intel in 2006, I started using Parallels and VMware Fusion instead, which are just virtual machines rather than full emulators (much better performance).
Emulator inception is totally a thing. I can't remember what the record was, but I vaguely recall hearing someone had gotten about 10 layers of nested emulators working. Maybe it's a lot higher now.dayjob wrote: Fri Aug 27, 2021 3:20 am i think by now they've probably got 1 or 2 more levels of russian doll nesting of OS.
I suppose I probably stop mentioning emulators in an Arturia thread, where most people expect it to mean the Emu Emulator.

Thoughts anyone? I was waiting for BF to pull the trigger on upgrading v7 to v8, and then I got the special offer email today which gets me the SQ 80 + v8 upgrade for $150. I can't imagine they are going to drop v9 this Dec, since they just did v8.1 in July. It seems like a no-brainer to grab this offer...

It seems to be roughly 1.5 years between V Collection versions. Based on this, I think V Collection 9 should be around May 2022.
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here.

What about some better analog like processing vst ? we already have plently but they just crush the sound and add harmonics without adding depth. It seems with component modelling this becomes more and more credible. Repro does component modeling and it sounds like the hardware. Slap some plugin on your channel to give hardware depth.

They have the preamps bundle that can help a bit, but of course that's not the component modeling of the synth hardware, it's the console's sound.
