First off,
Let me apologize if you’ve seen this post before as I fully intend to cross post the hell out of this to get the best education opinion from as many sources as possible.

I guess the best way to get the right answer is to explain what I want to do. I currently use Sony (Sonic Foundry) Acid Pro 4. I run it on my laptop for LIVE performance with no problems and I’m sure I can handle more.

My first track is the backing music, the second through fifth are midi sequence data being sent out to a midi DMX lighting controller. This allows us to have a sequenced light show that follows the changes in the music. We also play one VSTi instrument live during the show (while the backing and midi is being played). I have successfully added a video track that plays with no stutters or skipping as track 6. The problem is that Acid does NOT output the video full screen unless it is sent out via firewire. The problem is that most video projectors do NOT have a firewire input. I need to have full screen video out while the rest of this is going on.

I understand Cubase may have this capability.

Has anyone tried this and does it work?

Are there any other programs that will offer wav playback, sequenced midi out, live VSTi and FULL screen video output?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If you have Acid you may want to try Vegas,,its more video orientated,,and with all the audio toys......

You could try a FireWire to analogue converter. Even a small camera with pass-trough could do the trick.

I don't think Vegas supports midi and VST. I have an older version that did neither.

I forgot to mention that I wrote their tech support about this and asked if the new Acid Pro 5 version had this feature and I offered some suggestions for future improvements. Sadly, here is the response I got.

Hello,

Thanks for writing. There is no way to output full frame video in ACID
via anything except Firewire, and that's not likely to change in the
future. ACID isn't intended to be a live performance tool, just to
compose music. If you have follow up questions or need further assistance
with this issue, please update this incident.

Sincerely,

You could try the PD/GEM route.
Hell of a learning curve, though.

Check out vvvv!
It's an extremely powerful & versatile tool,
among a lot of other things it supports midi input & has a videofile player.
I'm taking a vvvv course at my graphics&design university;
there's quite a learning curve, but imo vvvv is easier
to handle than PD/GEM or MaxMSP/Jitter.

Have you considerd a firewire to video converter?

A quick google search brought up this:

Nope.

It can output to FW on Mac (not on Windows!), or it can display the video in a window.

I'm using SX2.2 - I haven't tried SX3, but I doubt it'll add full-screen video. I think if it were possible (and feasible), then it would have already been done. :?

Forever,

Kim.
