how to mix & master SOUND FXs? which effects?

Hey guys, i learned a lot about mixing and mastering music and vocals but i got now for a project im doing and did myself sounds, e.g. scraping on some metal, downloaded free pistol sounds, explosion etc.

But am a bit unsure what to use.
My current procedure is unlike music single sound fx doesnt need to be treated a lot, of course it depends on the material.

EQ
definitely, especially filtering the low end if there and removing or adding clarity and unwanted sound/damping

Maybe denoising before if there is unwanted noise.

Other than that when and how much would u compress?

E.g for a pistol sound if it doesnt have much ooomph i would add some eq to give it light thump.
An explosion i would check how much it rumbles and thats it.

Overall i wouldnt alter much to keep the sounds natural?
