Yeah, I get that too. I don't see why anyone would spend so much on a Clavia - they're pretty pricey, and you can get pretty decent real analogue poly for that - Prophet or somesuch. Obviously that VA type of sound attracts some people - just not the likes of us. I definitely understand things like Viruses - they have an obvious character, even though I would never want one.

I rediscovered this dislike when I heard audio demos for DiscoDSP Discovery Pro. I couldn't remember if the Nord Lead 2 really sounded that bad or if it was just a bad emulation. Then I listened again to some NL2 demos and unfortunately, Discovery Pro IS an accurate emulation. The original synth is just that abysmal. Again, they look amazing, though.

The first few minutes of this are great. What I've heard from this video so far seems to escape some of the 'glassiness' that I've heard in other videos (preser. Has a nice electrical buzzyness to it. And the filters seem really great.

I've heard enough moments of gritty, crunchy, raw but musical goodyness across various videos that I ordered one. I especially like when someone is adjusting parameters and some unexpected sound like electricity bubbles out. The M has the sorts of sounds I was hoping to find in the Quantum.

Another one from this guy. These, although long, are the best showing of this synth so far.

The sounds is really thick and chunky. It's maybe tricky to judge as easily without fx.

I'm really like some parts of the sound. It does some weirdly good organ sounds. I'd love to hear some more aggressive sound examples. I get the feeling that this synth really needs to be explored to find the sweet spots/Wavetable that someone likes more.

There's something about the idea/concept of this synth that I really like. It seems to have overtaken the peak in my list of desired synths, but has made me watch some more demos of the udo super 6 and has elevated that one further!

BTW, I wonder who the guy is who did the software for the M. Seems like Rolf Wöhrmann "only" had the project lead for the M, and the actual coding was done by Vladimir Salnikov, according to the manual.

i wonder if he coded some synth software? but my bet is that if he did they are probably not as special as this synth.. you remove the analog circuit and that sound like a "more common" wavetable synth i guess like blofeld and what i have heard from iridium , i can get similar sound timbre with many wavetable plugin using same bit and sample rate in the tables but the organic quality and "thickness", "compact" thing from the M is not there , one off the difference is that that it sound sort of bandpassed while some plugins like serum sound more full bandwich , that may be a thing that can help to accentuate that compact thickness thing but not sure at all.

I felt the exact same way. I was so excited that the Quantum would be a sort of Microwave +, but they seemingly removed all personality from the oscillator section as well as the filters. How they got the analog filters to sound like good digital filters might entice some people, but not me.

I found the M in stock and ordered this morning. Should arrive on Thursday. Every M sound demo reconfirms that the sound of it just does it for me. And the future option to upgrade to 16 voices is some icing.

This has 8 analog filters so is a different beast. Nord Wave 2 is purely digital, but has a keyboard, more voices and built in fx.

In comparing the M to pretty much ANY other synth currently in production, the big difference is that no other current wavetable scanning synth sounds like a hybrid from the '80s (apart from one or two semi-obscure Eurorack oscillator modules and Waldorf's PPG 3.V software). It's all about those anything-but-pristine sounding oscillators with very obvious transposition artifacts run through analog filters. Massive X, Hydrasynth, Peak/Summit, etc., etc...none of those others has that kind of sound. If you want it in a new/current synth, this is the only game in town until the Behringer Wave arrives (and who knows when that will be).
