As opposed to the 2.5 upgrade? I'd expect it'll cost more than that one did. :-)

I'm quite ready to reward the Props for a great deal of hard work, since IMO the last upgrade really ought to've been called 3.0 and cost money.

Coders and managers and such don't work on just cold air and vodka, y'know. Gotta have some Ry-Krisp now and then too. *innocent*

Yeah your right, guess I´m just a cheap bastard.

Mmm, smooth extrapolation there. :-D

P.S.: I wonder how much it'll cost too. I'll have to save up to afford it. No matter, I trust it will be worth it.

The first concrete details of next major update to Propellerhead’s Reason software have been revealed.
And the word is that version 3 will contain several new features designed with live performance in mind. For example, the new Combinator module (pictured below) allows users to consruct chains of Reason instrument, effects and sequencer modules and save them as a combi patch. Users can thereby recall complex setups instantly.
Propellerhead have for a long time been resisting requests from many users to incorporate audio recording, third-party plug-in hosting and other DAW-type features into Reason, and there’s no change to their stance in version 3. Indeed, Propellerhead make it clear that they see Reason as the software alternative to a hardware workstation synth, with the same capabilities for composing, production and now live performance too.
Another new module is MClass, a mastering suite featuring a four-band parametric and shelving EQ, a compressor/maximiser and a look-ahead limiter.
Other new features in version 3 that have been confirmed so far include a new, expanded soundbank, with more multisampled instruments and a range of combi patches, a new browser featuring text searches, Favourites folders and audition play of all samples and patches via MIDI, and out-of-the-box integration with most major control surfaces, including support for motorised faders and controller displays.
We expect many more details of the new version to be revealed before Reason v3 becomes available in early 2005.

So who's going to be the first to try and load a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator inside a combinator... :?:

This bastard better be a vst loader or i (and i'm sure many of you) will be damn well pissed off. Even god damn fruity loops let's you load vsti's. How god damn long will it take.

There are rumors floating around other sites that Reason will never ever be able to load vsti's because of some strange (and probably fictional) contractual obligations to a past distributor that will remain nameless. I think it’s just a load of bunk. Reason will likely never be able to load vsti's because of some other reason probably relating to some weird audio engine issue or something like that. Whatever.

It’s about time that those bastards at least tell us strait up that vsti integration is a pipe dream. My hopes were up when I saw that Propellerheads' was hiring more programmers but realistically, it will never happen. What a bunch of bastards (but I'll still enjoy using the damn program, just because. I'll probably even fall in love with this update as well, regardless of what "The Combinator" really is).

But damn it, Rewire can be a real pain in the ass sometimes and now with Battery 2/008 and the endless list of softsynths and samplers, I'm going to finally try to stop using this ridiculous program once and for all.

And for Pete sakes, let the damn bastard load long .wav files for once. It's not that complicated, is it? I don't know jack about coding (as most of you can probably tell), but common, shouldn't a .wav loader be easier to create than a whole gad damn sampler? Shouldn't it.

And last but not least, LET US CHANGE THE TEMPO/TIME SIGNATURE in the middle of song file. I don't understand how this could be more complicated than designing a whole gad damn sequencer. Lots of people would use this feature if it were available. I know it. Some of us actually live in a would that isn't governed (or governated) by duple meter.

There you go, the top three ways to improve that program. A true version 3.0 should include at least two of those suggested improvements in addition to some enhancements of the audio engine and maybe another softsynth or two. Do I sound like a whiner? Yes of course. Am I demanding? You damn well know it. But, seriously, if anyone from propellerheads' ever reads this, it shouldn't be a great revelation. People have been asking for this stuff for years. Sooner or later, if you don't deliver it, we'll all forget that your program and your company had ever existed. Because, believe me, there will always be a ton of competition and they're likely reading these same posts and maybe they will come out of the blue as fast as you did. And guess what, maybe they'll be the ones getting our money.

By the way, I just wanted to restate the fact that I really like Reason a lot. However, its limitations really make it almost unusable in the age of vsti's.

It will only happen when enough people wise up and stop buying it. And when the mags. stop hyping it up as the next best thing, which will never happen.

I say - good luck to them. Let them keep it free from VST - no skin off my nose. It's just sad to watch newcomers to computer music being taken in by "the whole rack of synths" that Reason offers, when they don't know that just about every other program is far more powerful, simply because they support VST.

If any other music program came out, that didn't support VST, this negative point would be made very clear in every review of it, and it would get severely marked down because of it. i.e. "Lack of VST support" would be in bold letters, in the 'Cons' section.

Funny how Reason can do no wrong. But if people still buy it, then I can't blame the Props. for not changing it that much.

Deggy - vote with your mouse. Use another, VST compatible, program. Tell the Props. where to shove Reason.

I can see it all now...
Reason 3 comes out: the mags. (particularly that bastion of computer knowledge, Computer Music) praise it and hype it beyond all recognition. Another hundred thousand newcomers to music catch onto this hype and buy it. They then defend it like it's some new god, and go apeshit when anybody points out its little 'problems'.

And so the miserable cycle continues...

But hey - at least it will be 'stable', right! And that seems to be all that it will have going for it...

Dumbasses .. Propellerheads have stated catagorically HUNDREDS of times before that VST support is out of the question!!

The same with audio recording.

Which is why Reason, Reason 2, and Reason 3, all belong in the 1990s...

"A whole rack of synths!"

Yeah, I sort of agree. Newcomers will get stuck into Reason, and probably ignore everything else ... for a while.

But y'know, its not just the magazines that make this kind of situtation. Its websites like KvR too.

KvR doesn't have a Reason section. It doesn't have Reason tutorials, and it doesn't have anything newsworthy about Reason either.

You guys all say that its because Reason is not open-ended.

But then you complain when people want to only use Reason. What more of an opportunity do you get to convert Reason users to "Rewirers" than the opportunity of having the number one Reason forum on the net.

Anyone who comes here for whatever reason will inevitably discover something new that tickles their fancy.

Personally, I like Reason. I think it sounds great, has great features, its the most stable program I've ever worked with, and its a great environment to work with.

Cubase, Logic and Sonar. All three are just convoluted. I don't use them.

Its Reason (soon to be 3!!), EnergyXT and Ableton Live all the way with me. I can utilise Reasons strengths and counter its weaknesses with my Live and XT.
