Hi

I have a little and probably really stupid question.

I was watching a cubase tutorial where they said that if you add Insert effects in the Offline Processing it doesn’t use any CPU. So I was wondering why wouldn’t one do that all the time then?
I assume there is a deciding difference.. What is that?
In which scenarios do you guys use inserts in offline processing?

Grazie mille

It just prints the FX into the audio and remembers the settings, so you can always revert or adjust it. It makes perfect sense to use for situations where you want just a section of track affected, for which an alternative would be to leave the FX on track and automate its on/off or mix state, but then it would still eat CPU and/or RAM all the time.

You can't do automation in offline mode.
Besides that, the majority of plugins is easy for the CPU so there's no need to complicate your workflow by putting every single effect in offline mode. It's easier to open effect from the left inspector or mixer window that clocking on the audio clip, opening another window with plugins with offline mode, changing a parameter and waiting when it will render audio file again.
Another thing is you can't do it for midi/instrument tracks, only for audio clips.

I have wanted to have automation for offline processing. Combine that with the ability to press a button to have effects in the inspector turned into offline processes and you can effectively. "freeze" at any point in the process.
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

I do gain adjustments on regions in the audio Part window a fair bit.
Also I'll stretch a last region for an ending, with a synth part, stretching for the effect, done this for years.
And I've adjusted the timing of audio committed to or audio where there is no MIDI or help for it in time stretch, but pretty minute changes here.
