Yes I find this confusing. A layer playing a sound that does not correspond to the name of the patch. It makes creating layers more difficult if the patches in one layer are changed when dragging .syx to another layer.jbraner wrote: Mon Oct 04, 2021 8:36 pm I find this really confusing.
The "name" does not necessarily correspond with the actual settings in A (or B) - but rather the name in the slot on the syx page.
So, load a OPS7 preset that you saved (using only A not B). Now it will show the name of whatever syx you dragged to slot 1 - but will play your actual preset.

I meant to make those evolving moving sounds like drones ... etc. Well, in theory they are not very hard to achieve, but in FM8 it is easier because of the envelopes. Anyway, I think I found a way by adjusting the init envelopes and using steps in the modulations.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

You can start by using low hertz static operators in between operators for some motion

Me too. Your system makes no sense whatsoever. Good luck with your project. I'm out.

David every time I select "Init" preset all the settings (DAC,Post Filter, Comp Error, etc) are reset to default factory setting, I would expect to return to the Default preset the User saved, Is this a bug?

Nah, this isn't a bug, this is how chipsynth has acted since Day 1. If you want it to do what you're expecting, a good way would be to save as default as well as save a user init preset that you load instead of using the hardcoded initialize preset.Lucastyle wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:00 am David every time I select "Init" preset all the settings (DAC,Post Filter, Comp Error, etc) are reset to default factory setting, I would expect to return to the Default preset the User saved, Is this a bug?

This is most intuitive FM synth, not the best colour choice but Single-screen, perfect envelope editing, drag and drop envelope and operator copy. Very fun and fast mouse editing. That's how FM synth should look in 2021.

I'll test it out if there's a demo. Hopefully it sounds good, unlike most FM synths. Thanks for the recommend.toitoi wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 5:51 ambriefcasemanx wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 5:48 pm What's the most intuitive fm synth UI? The newest Reason one?

As an aside, not aimed specifically at Toitoi, OPS7 seems like one of the only FM synths that actually sounds good (from the sound demo I don't own it yet, had it in my cart like a week ago but decided to wait on the demo, ONLY because it'll be my 4th dx7 clone, it obviously sounds better than the others although I think the Arturia one sounds pretty decent).
I don't know why its so hard to make an FM synth that has good sound quality, but apparently it is??? Something about the high end sounds unpolished on many FM synths that I've tried out.
I have Chipsynth MD and that sounds good to me, or at least when it does sound cheap it sounds exactly like how a Sega Genesis sounds cheap, not like a typical FM vst. Maybe there's magic code that devs were forced to create to get their algorithms to run on primitive chips, and their solutions sound better or more distinctive than the easy code we can implement on today's supercomputers without a second thought? Maybe the analog stage added polish in some way?
I don't know what the answer is or if I'm just hearing things (I bet a bunch of people disagree with me here), but Plogue FM synths seem to have the best FM sound quality in the VST world, from what I've tried.

Chipsynth definitely sounds stronger and more gritty than Arturia's CZ. Just used 3 sounds from it in a track with little difficulty (except MIDI implementation), whereas trying to re-create some sounds from an Eat Static track from the 90's on the CZ ended up being very time consuming and sounding too weakbriefcasemanx wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 6:19 amI'll test it out if there's a demo. I am very interested in this synth as such, but god, why is the GUI so ugly?
