For this application it was very useful.
I used 2 instances, one on the drum bus, the other on the synth bus.

Being able to rhythmically sync the effects between the synths and drums was very useful.

You could do all of that with Version 1
No auto tune...

Come on guys. Obviously, Dmitry didn't just build a new GUI around the existing modules from Tantra 1.

Post

Do you have both Tantra 1 and 2 installed to compare? I have them both but haven't bothered to A/B them for features.

Sure there were changes beyond the gui but if those changes are enough to justify the upgrade price or not is up to the individual.

Well, the Clean and Dark filter types are definitely new, so, I'd assume there also have been changes to rest of the modules.

Yes, totally up to the user, as usual. That's why we can all decide whether we want to part with our money or not.

I like the new GUI, BTW. Looks much worse on the screenshots than it is in action, admittedly.

What the plugin still sorely misses are some modulation options.

But i did it with version 2 with features not available in V1.

Added global playback speed control
Added modulator shift left/right options
Plugin Data folder can be relocated on Windows now
Added various optimizations, improvements and fixes
Added VST3 plugin format
Factory Expansion 1, 2 and 3 added to the factory presets library

Do we really need two Tantra threads ? Maybe someone could lock one or the other.

Nope, global playback speed control was not in version 1.

I got my upgrade discount code within two days - totally acceptable. To buy the (discounted) upgrade, no matter how much really is new, is a form of support for a great developer, who Dmitry Sches is.

UPADTE 2: Upgraded. $25. The randomize is really nice, much more useful than the v1. plus the GUI resize makes it worth it. The GUI needs work in order to improve workflow from a visual standpoint. Hopefully we wont have to wait long for that.

UPDATE: I'll demo it first. I was thinking about the random feature - if it truly is "musical" that might be worth it. I really hope the GUI gets dressed up though to better support the workflow.

I've decided not to upgrade. I like T1 just fine. The new GUI, 2 filters and randomization are not worth $25 for me to upgrade. Alas. Also I have changed from a PA fan to a PA not-a-fan which contributes to my decision.

The new GUI, resized, is clearly easier to work with ...

jobi7 wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:02 pm So I've been spending quite a bit of time comparing Tantra 1 to Tantra 2. Just thought I'd share a few thoughts.
- I just reread a DS newsletter from Feb. 2019 announcing the move to PA and Tantra 2 as well as Diversion 2. Interesting that he was supposed to finish Diversion 2 first by the end of that year and put it on PA.
- Here's a quote from that newsletter - " Both Diversion 2 and Tantra 2 will provide much more new features and improvements than their current versions." I guess you'll have to be the judge of that. Not seeing many new features in Tantra 2 except for a few new filters.
- Like others, I've heard no big differences in sound between v1 and v2. I've A/B'd many many presets. Sometimes I think I hear a bit more crispiness in v2 but then, maybe not. They are very close.
- I know lots has been said about the new GUI. I personally don't mind it too much as I wasn't particularly enamored with v1. However, there is one big improvement, imho, that no one has talked about. 1) The matrix window is no longer in the way of the controls which makes for easier modulation tweaking. I do not like how the matrix sits on top of the controls in v1. Also, 2) I like that the modulations are now dynamic in v2 vs. stagnant in v1. The visuals are very helpful for tweaking modulations.
- Is this enough for me to upgrade for $49? Well, no. I checked and my outlay for v1 was $49 plus $12 each for the extensions. I'll be patient and wait. $19.99 is probably my target price. In the meantime, thanks for the Infiltrator tip. I'll definitely be checking that out. Hope this helps!
I`m tempted to snag Tantra 2 today ($49), but something tells me it`ll drop to $29 really soon. Totally agree with you about the matrix window being better-placed in v2. Wasn`t able to demo Tantra 2 after installing due to having to leave town for a few weeks, but it looks a lot easier to mess about with than v1. Anyway, thx for the comparisons.. much appreciated!

I read a lot of people saying they prefer Tantra 1 over 2. I don’t own 1 yet. Can I still get it some how?

I wouldn't base my buying decisions on what strangers on the internet say.

Version 2 has everything that version 1 has, and then some. But the GUI is different. There's a demo, so that you can even try it out.
