You guys all say that its because Reason is not open-ended.

But then you complain when people want to only use Reason. What more of an opportunity do you get to convert Reason users to "Rewirers" than the opportunity of having the number one Reason forum on the net.

Anyone who comes here for whatever reason will inevitably discover something new that tickles their fancy.

Personally, I like Reason. I think it sounds great, has great features, its the most stable program I've ever worked with, and its a great environment to work with.

Cubase, Logic and Sonar. All three are just convoluted. I don't use them.

Its Reason (soon to be 3!!), EnergyXT and Ableton Live all the way with me. I can utilise Reasons strengths and counter its weaknesses with my Live and XT.
I completely agree. The Anti-Reason brigade continually shoot themselves in the foot by overstating their case.

My guess is that all of us on this forum enjoy making music on the computer. And right now Reason is not only one of the most popular programs around, but also among the most stable and CPU friendly.

Using Live I can load maybe five or six VST instruments/effects before the CPU starts to give out.

In Reason I can load over 30 devices without any problem. And those devices! Some of the finest sounds out there, surely? RV7000 has to be up there with the BEST reverbs, and the samples in NN-XT and ReDrum are great - I use them constantly as a first port of call.

If you can;t handle that, tough. Get over it!
Both of you are spot on.

Live4 and Reason3 for me. What's cool is that I will be able to easily play my stuff onstage without having to do much to it and I'll be able to use the Combinators splits and layers like a workstation!

I like Reason as well because I can load a hundred devices and tweak like crazy. I also like Live4 because I can use VSTi's that have that "certain sound" that I like.

And I like them BOTH because with VST's, I can apply cool external effects that are out there to anything I want in Reason!

I don't think including VST's in Reason is the way to approach it. I approach it as Reasons modules being a rewire "plugin" to Live4. For what you get with Reason, its an awesome plugin for your Rewire Host program of choice.

I still love to sequence in Reason. It is fast and intuitive. I'm sure the props are gonna make it even better with 3.

HI

If the Piano-Roll in Reason had been more to MY taste I wouldn't be spending so much bloody money on other programs, I really hope they enhance this aspect as the rest IMO is pretty functional.

Flipper.

Acolmiztli, headquest, drez, I'm with you there. But y'all better prepare to be derided as "fanboys" by those whose spare time is spent in gleeful, destructive criticism of something they don't intend to buy. :-D

Calling me a fanboy doesn't work terribly well, but that doesn't mean someone won't try it. =^_^=

Hmm, I see xg2 is here to give his well thought out arguments again.

Give it a rest man, magazines don't review trackers because they WANT to piss you off. You are there anti-target audience, it took them years of research to realise just what would cause you to flip your lid every ten minutes.

Don't let the man get to you! It's what they want.

:hihi:

So XG2, could you Please find a new topic to tediously repeat ad nauseam?

Cheers.

Back on topic, I really want Reason! I used to have access to it at a friends house, it was a brilliant sketchpad tool. The new loader looks like a cool idea! What connections does it have around the back? Can you select which sockets show?

I don't think anyone who's allowed to say knows those answers yet. We'll have to wait. An-ti-ci-pa-tion...

Those CV and trig and gate jacks are what makes Reason special, IMO. Hard to understand just how powerful they are until you've used them a while (or you're an old-timer from the days when synths burned coal and belched steam and exhaust, as I am).

Not at all. I used to use Buzz extensively!! Only problem with Buzz is that I found it really hard to get my sounds out and to then put them in sync with my other software.

But I love trackers. The only programs I don't like are the over complicated ones like Cubase SX and Sonar - I like Logic, because that at least gives you a bit of a clearer layout.

but at the end of the day what really matters is the music... tools are just a means to an end. But I can't wait for Reason 3!

Hey headquest,

This is what i don't undersatnd about these arguments.

I can handle that you like reason, good for you mate, glad you've got a system you like to make music :)

Sure you'd accept that i prefer tracking for making beats and Live as my main host etc. No relevance to you is it?! So i doubt you'd have a go at me for my choices.
No I wouldn't. Whatever works for you!

Besides, Live 4 is MY main host too 8)
So why do some people (like XG2 and others) troll about and moan to people about their choice of software? It doesn't even affect them at all.

What the point of it?!
None so far as I can tell - a complete waste of everyone's time!

Cheers :)

I'm beginning to suspect there may be no changes there, which would be a pity, I think. I would certainly like to see a paint brush tool (for the drum lane) among other things.

Its moot to speculate really. Once the first people get into the beta more tidbits of info will be flying around I'm sure.

It will only happen when enough people wise up and stop buying it. And when the mags. stop hyping it up as the next best thing, which will never happen.

I say - good luck to them. Let them keep it free from VST - no skin off my nose. It's just sad to watch newcomers to computer music being taken in by "the whole rack of synths" that Reason offers, when they don't know that just about every other program is far more powerful, simply because they support VST.

If any other music program came out, that didn't support VST, this negative point would be made very clear in every review of it, and it would get severely marked down because of it. i.e. "Lack of VST support" would be in bold letters, in the 'Cons' section.

Funny how Reason can do no wrong. But if people still buy it, then I can't blame the Props. for not changing it that much.

Deggy - vote with your mouse. Use another, VST compatible, program. Tell the Props. where to shove Reason.

I can see it all now...
Reason 3 comes out: the mags. (particularly that bastion of computer knowledge, Computer Music) praise it and hype it beyond all recognition. Another hundred thousand newcomers to music catch onto this hype and buy it. They then defend it like it's some new god, and go apeshit anybody points out its little 'problems'.
when will dickheads like you get it into their thick skulls that Reason is NOT a vst host so Propellerheads DON'T HAVE TO INCLUDE VST SUPPORT!! If you buy a car are you going to complain you can't fly it? If you buy a hardware synth are you going to complain you can load it as a VST in Cubase? If you buy a mixing desk, are you going to complain it can't make toast. Get it into your tiny little fuckhead brain.. Reason WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE A VST HOST AND IT WILL NEVER BLOODY HAVE TOO BE ONE!!!

It's a workstation, a scratch book, a rewire client.. AND NOT A f**king VST HOST. If you want a vst host, get something else..
and unlike idiots like you, most people check the specs of a software before they buy it, so very little people will be surprised to see it hasn't got VST support. But I'm guessing you were one of the idiots who didn't bother checking that and so now you're pissing on propellerheads because of your own stupidity
