If I just ‘need a compressor’ on a track, it tends to be ik black76; it may not be the best on everything but it generally does something good and I don’t have to think about it.

Though often I’ll put a dynamic eq (melda mdynamiceq does the job) instead depending on why I thought I wanted/needed a compressor.

Or both (dynamic eq->comp).

PSP Twin L. It's the bees knees.

Sonimus Tuco also gets forgotten by most I think. It just works. You probably own it. You should use it more.

I really like the character of the soft knee in Twin l, holds the bottom together doesn't get too bright on a drum bus for example, 3 plus db of reduction can get a bit splatty on other comps on a bus but TL stays soft. It's good on everything too IMO.

I'm not sure if it's underrated or that it just never got any attention. I think people who use it love it but it just doesn't have a large user base. People probably think "I don't need it, vintage style limiter, nah", which is fine they probably don't but it can do a ton of work at low cpu, no latency. Definitely one of my favorites anyway.

Was it ever in question that Kotelnikov is awesome?
It's not light on the CPU though - like pretty much everything from TDR
TBH I haven't paid attention to what others think of it. I just knew I liked it and there is sometimes a general attitude towards freeware around here,so maybe it wouldn't be taken as seriously as some big name/price tag mentions

Voxengo GUIs are wonderful to work with and are not distracting as opposed to some "vintage analog" GUIs.

I think Voxengo has extremely functional GUIs personally, if not especially shiny they certainly do the job efficiently.

All purpose: FIRcomp (it's not a secret anymore but it does make up for some very tasty sauce)

I can see your point and respect that their tools are pro and well made.
Still, I’m no young insta-poser here, yet I am sensitive to aesthetics in almost everything in life.
