Looking for generative/algorithmic software with custom scales and chords

you might want to mention which DAW you're using as a few of them have the ability to easily define custom scales and chords. You can also chain plugins together instead of trying to get an all-in-one.

Yeah you're probably right about Koan Pro - I guess I kind of got hung up on the fact that Brian Eno was able to do a whole album with it (which says something for the quality of the program). However, I haven't been able to hear any of the album, and as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm looking for a program that creates music that doesn't have a meandering sound to it (ambient, dreamy). I have nothing against that kind of music, I just tend to like composing pieces more in a pop/rock/progressive style.

One program that sort of has the format I would like to find is the Captain plugins. There is a Captain Melody and Captain Chords plugin that works together in a way I would like to find that would incorporate custom scales and chords.

No software writes a song, the songwriter does.
The software can generate ideas but the songwriter decides based on what the songwriter hears that pleases the ear.

Here's an example of me using Instacomposer, where Instacomposer generates a working idea, then I just add to it.

Remember, this is a starting Logic project where I can take the MIDI from Instacomposer and put it in another Logic project without Instacomposer but use the MIDI generated from Instacomposer, then continue to finish the song.


And back to Wotja, you do know that generates WAV and MIDI output.

This is way better then all the other video's I saw about InstaComposer sofar. I found InstaComposer very lame to be honest, but in the right hands you can make it work I'll see.

When you start to add your own ideas, at a certian point, you just may leave out the original 5 tracks from Instacomposer, now it's a Logic Project with what you've written.
