They are really new though, I find that fair, they weren't part of the deal when I bought into the group buy. I was already pleasently suprised that they added the X-Gear stuff, since I'm running out of stuff to pick.
On topic: Those look great, but I already got 4 tape machines from the group buy

Ahhhh! The Porta One:) The days when four tracks and the ability to bounce was so limiting but somehow so creatively challenging. Halcyon days... worth it just for the nostalgia:)

After a brief demoing I think I like the Tascam Tape Collection more, because the machines and tapes have a more audible effect and they're also better suitable for lofi purposes. Although there still are no noise, hum, wow & flutter features to degrade the sound even further. In that respect they're not that different from the earlier four tape machines. So there are similarities, but it's not as if you buy those same four tape machines again.flori89 wrote: Wed Oct 13, 2021 7:53 am On topic: Those look great, but I already got 4 tape machines from the group buy. Not sure if I need another four.

Until it does tape bounce fidelity loss, I'm out. There should be a knob to twiddle, surely? I have some tape overdubbing experiments ca 1977 that can be sampled, for a fee.

Are the Tascam Porta Studio cassette 4 tracks the ones that had the speed up/slow down pitch knob? The ones Ween made famous use of on early albums for pitched effect vocals?

Most portastudios back then, apart from the super budget ones, had speed controls, as it was quite an important tool for tracking to tape. And yes, the Porta One has a +/- 15% speed control.metalifuxx wrote: Wed Oct 13, 2021 5:24 pm Are the Tascam Porta Studio cassette 4 tracks the ones that had the speed up/slow down pitch knob? The Porta model in PreSonus’ Retro Mix Legends Mix Engine FX does pitch adjustment (without affecting speed.)beely wrote: Wed Oct 13, 2021 5:36 pmMost portastudios back then, apart from the super budget ones, had speed controls, as it was quite an important tool for tracking to tape. Interesting. I'm pretty keen on the Portastudio. I had a couple back in the day. My first one was a little one (can't remember the model) but I hit the big time when I got my Tascam 414 MKII... Then I went digital when I discovered Cool Edit Pro and Fruity Loops.

I used to own the exact same portastudio as one of the machines in this collection, so I'll be getting this collection purely for sentimental reasons and nostalgia.
