Playing MIDI with Media Player, etc??

I used to b able to play back MIDI files with Windows Media Player using the Microsoft MIDI mapper or whatever it was called. I uninstalled one of my sound cards (delta 1010) and now I don't have that option. The installed card is a Lynx2. I have no MIDI playback now, unless I do it in Cubase SX. I need to be able to play MIDI files outside SX. I used to use a Yamaha Soft Synth that presented itself to the OS as a MIDI playback device. So I could play through it in Media Player, etc.

Does anyone know of free soft synths that will work this way?

Start - settings - control panel - sounds and audio devices - audio tab - midi music playback - default device

Set this to Microsoft GS Wavetable software synth
