It's not exactly what you are looking for but drop samplers on tracks and map the samples to your keyboard. With a little imagination it can be used like a hardware sampler. Even better than hardware you can load up on effects and build up your own hyper/tank like library plus record audio tracks slice 'em up and make your own samples. You don't even need to use vsti's unless you just want too and best of all it's free. For now anyway

This is just so generious now everyone should have a good host/sequencer/sampler. I paid the $80 bucks and at first I was a little pissed but it's not that much different than me giving the p-600 prophet emulator away and charging for the upgrade. It's still there BTW... Just in case someone still wants to use vsti's

Emulator X is probably the closest thing to a software emulation of a hardware sampler... Apparently the resampling and filters are very similar... And it's all done in software, despite it only working with certain EMU soundcards.
Going a bit further back, this was an early attempt to simulate an AKAI sampler:

No idea how accurate it was (I'm guessing not very) as it's no longer available...

Like anything better than a sampler = Kontakt
The exs24 is now way as powerful as a sampler from the Ax000 range and a sampler like Halion is more like a hardware sampler...Kontakt?
Piece of shit is what is is! I have never used it and I don't know anyone who has but that's my standpoint...And I'm correct because I have a lot of posts here at KvR

Did you ever bother to purchase more computer RAM first?
And BTW, nothing blows far worse than exsp24.

Dissing Kontakt is not cool. I have less posts so my voice matters. Or something.

f**k! I misspelled...I meant to type:

wtf..someone dissing Kontakt?? never thought i'd live to see that day coming.
ok, EXS24 is the dope, but logic days are over for most of the world anyway..so you're saying that HALion actually can compete with Kontakt?
that silly suggestion just make me wanna laugh.

well, the thing wich annoy me the most, is the lousy browser. its too small so i cant really see the name of some presets and sounds..as well as the dir etc.., and i would like to be able to go thru the sounds with my arrow keys instead of mouse clicking.
i would also be able to, like in reason's sampler, just exchanging the wav files in an already made preset. so i coul dhave the same settings already made and just browse thru different wavs.. i hate the click n drag option. well, i can go on and on..but still, its the best sampler out there yet.
sounds like small things, but mean a lot to my workflow.
