Reason subscription - waste of money if you don´t use sound packs?

for me it would be a waste of money, 2 times; i don't use soundpacks/refills/presets ánd you don't own (yes you are are a licensee... you don't own it... but it feels like it...) it.... 2 x it!

i don't know the device-rate-production of Reason Studios.. but Reason+ is mainly focused on soundpacks; first thing in the clickbait site of RS; "Find fresh sounds", make them your own, is mentioned after that..., third thing; "Weekly Sound Packs" and then; devices.

but for everyone the sitution, workflow is different; i already owned 11 Suite. and the 3 devices i don't have, aren't that interesting to me, except Algoritm. Friktion is great, it is quite tempting, but i won't use it. i have enough alternatives, that suit me better (outside Reason, yes.. but for my workflow not important).

For now, that's true (unless you don't have all RS' REs, in which case it's also about having access to them if that's something you care for). But hopefully in 1-2 years the value proposition will be different, i.e. including - hopefully - several new devices and new version of Reason & RRP. Then it might start making more sense, even if you don't really "own" it anymore.

indeed, perhaps there is already a roadmap, or there are ideas for new devices (although they called for ideas, well, that mean anything).

as i said, and i shall admit, when Reason+ came, i wasn't happy, not because of that there is an option, but the whole site became clickbait (for a time it wasn't, it is back again). and well the strange ways of Reason Studios. it can be an transition, and i have faith in the people who really work on Reason (and with the phrasing, i don't have to explain...).

the Reason life-time of full version, i never thought about, can indeed be reduced by the sub-model, which is not that great for perpetual license owners (as i am, and it is clear that i own R11 Suite + R12. with some older versions, hidden in my account..).

as i said, that sentence had to be different, the choice you make depends on what you want.

the accident(al) bundle was tempting, but i let it go, i hope Algoritm will when BF hits (it hit me very hard last year, well, it has also the advantage; it can't hit me that hard anymore... not much very interesting stuff, for me.. or things i can postpone...), also be in the Reward Store... if not well...

i am not a sub-person (well yes, i have an internet-sub... not my own cable to the HUB... etc.), i pay for an upgrad/update, or a full version. money gone. no stress.

o well, endless debate about Reason, which is caused, let say by the transition, a new version of Reason, that when all goes well, next year will finished.. (ableton did it too, vst3 came in version 10... so...)

Thanks guys for your replies.
Yes I know, it must have been a ton of work to get everything updated. Maybe I was expecting more of those very nice and cool reason players to come or more creative stuff to be released within one full year.
Don´t know if I will pay for another one without having a clue what they plan but rather not.

@xbitz: thanks for your link! I didn´t know that there is a different subscription option only for extension.
How does that work exactly? Do I pay, lets say $19 per month for 8 extensions of my choise and cannot replace them with something else?

^^^ will be updated monthly basis after the paying based on REs on the subsc. list, if there is a 'subscribe' button on the given RE page then the device can be added

after adding the 'update subscription' refreshes the list itself, devices also can be/have to be removed to be able to keep your paying limit

forgotten that they already had a sub! before the +sub, or sub+....

which also works for third party plugins, for those who participate that is...

There's delay vs. the roadmap. There's not gonna be October release...

I'm not sure what in that posts from 6 weeks ago suggests "that was to be expected".

Also, I don't care for Comb2 so that's perfectly irrelevant to me, hence it's not an excuse to delay the fixes.

Based on the ongoing and hot discussion of the latest Bitwig 4.1 release, I can gladly say that compared to the Reason+ subscription for 1 year and a price of $199.00/€199, (I payed only the half) I got a lot more from Bitwig.
All those lovely little tools from the 4.1 Beta alone are a slap to Reasons face in terms of revenue.

Yeah you're missing something, but not a lot. If you got your sub 7 months ago (end of April?), then you didn't have:

Mimic Creative Sampler
Combinator 2
An additional 100 presets (for Combi 2)
100 new instrument patches added
1000 Combinator patches has been updated to take advantage of the new Combinator features

But it looks like Bitwig may be more your jam.

The roadmap gives little reason to hope that there will be much in the way of new devices, but because I subscribe, I do not want to spend money on third party devices either. I wonder how much this subscription model has effected the third party developers, who I imagine were making very little money to start with.

The roadmap actually does mention new devices (currently researching), likely in 2022. But it looks like the latest update from RS suggests the wait is going to be a bit longer as they need to get R12 in a better state:
