Hi guys.

As well as music, I do a lot of film.
Myself and a friend are working on an animated series for Youtube. Both him and I are going to be doing the voices of the two main characters, but I'm not much of an actor.
Does anyone know of any effects that can be used to subtly alter voice in a natural way, so you know, it sounds like a different person? This will be for doing voices for secondary/guest characters.
I know it's a pretty broad question, but I'm keen to explore any good ideas. I will do a ton of research myself, I just thought I'd ask here as well.

Thanks. :tu:

Ircam Trax is amazing for this kind of thing, also using the AVOX kit Throat for changing physical characteristics of the throat; subtle settings, nothing too 'froggy'. Melodyne's good for exaggerating the frequencies in a performance, and small formant shifts.

Try your hosts off-line formant and pitch tools too. Eg, Logic's Flex-Pitch also has pitch exaggerating/damping tools.

Everything else is too artifact-ey, for me.

Melodyne Assistant or better (for tweaking formants.)

Altering both pitch and formant will give you different voices. A little voice acting in the same direction helps a lot. This is definitely going to be the most natural sounding option.

You can do it very easily and for free. Download the fully functional demo of Reaper. In Reaper there is an effect called 'ReaPitch' which includes all the options you need (like formant and pitch editing) to alter your voice into a new one. It sounds great.

I've got Little Alterboy, so that does pitch and formant, I might have a play with that.

Thanks for mentioning Throat, I didn't know it. I usually use IRCAM Trax for that, really excellent. Some formant filters may help, too (kiloHearts Formant Filter, DENPA Talking Filter, Melda MFilter with some presets, AIR Talkbox).

izotope Nectar 3 is made for voice, it's fairly feature-rich

Oh cool. Yes, I have Nectar. I'll look into it's capabilities. I got it in a bundle and don't really use it so I forgot about it.

Oh, and while its a fair bit shill-y to say so, there's a voice generation application out there that's decent-ish for wallah and background barks and the like, called Replica AI. Its being pitched at games and stuff, so that gives you an idea of the voice sets.
Works on the basis of having credits for X minutes of speech generation, you get 30 minutes for free, but I can send you a referral code that'll give you an extra 30 minutes if you're interested. Disclaimer on the shilling side : I get 30 minutes extra too.
