Theres no misunderstanding. The M series cannot simply be used in desktop due to Apples architecture. They arnt designed for expansion as the system is too integrated to be split. You cannot simply use DDR4 or 5 with these machines. Likewise the busses are not available. Its obvious that Apple is declaring thier desktop range dead and its consumer only laptops from now on.

The best thing about something like this for me is it pushes down the cost of the other chips that are fast enough for me!

I know, right? I had to go Intel because my interface (UAD) doesn’t support AMD. I was all worried about being disappointed and now that I have it, I’m amazed at how fast it is. Not only can I run the plugins that were snap crackle popp’n on my old i7, but I can run multiple hungry plugins. I don’t even think I’ve expected a buffer overrun yet.

I have an Mac Mini M1, it sits on my desktop. It runs into my 4k 43" tv/monitor with a samsung 1TB ssd, 2TB nvme and lots of other peripherals all running through my thunderbolt hub.
It runs faster than my ryzen 3000 pc.

Seems like a desktop computer to me but i just use it to make music with, not to try and start some sort of holy war amongst users of competing brands of cpu's.

I’m just glad AMD stirred the pot. We’ve seen more rapid progress in the past 3 years than the past previous 10 . Everyone is kicking it up a notch. A horse race is better than a run-away train. Everyone is spurred on by the competition.

Comparing a 125w desktop CPU with a 20-60w laptop CPU is dumb.

M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max slay AMD and Intel laptop CPUs. It's not even close.

I compared the new M1 processors to the latest Intel flagship laptop processor and they are about 55% faster for single core and 75% faster for multi core. AMD did quite a lot better than Intel, but the margin is still significant (ie. at least one generation behind).

AMD is a $145B company and Intel is a $200B company. Apple is a $2,480B company. It doesn't take a genius to figure out who is going to consistently win the battle.

Well when Intel drops this CPU we will get to see what AMD has to drop next . AMD is supposed to switch Sockets and Mobos for next series of CPUs , so we will see .... As for Apple ... I'm keeping an i on them ... Wife's pretty pissed with iOS15 release fkn up her Bluetooth devices , so ..will see , I don't think the new MacBook M1x is all that .

Maybe because AMD had some USB compatibility issues some months/years ago with their chipset.
I heard also Presonus Interfaces had problems with their chips. But afaik it's all solved now.
I have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2 and Audient ID 14 Mk2 running on AMD's X570 with zero problems.

Btw I'm no AMD fanboi, I'm also running an Intel I7-7700k in my studio with RME Fireface 802.
But sorry, AMD is on top in the desktop market right now

AFAIK ChromeOS users are almost entirely coming from Windows, not MacOS.

I fully support it. Windows is a major burden for people who only need to go online, type up some documents, watch some movies, etc. ChromeOS devices are clearly superior for such users.
