there's a secret trick to create more free space on your hardrive, so you can use soundpaint. find the steam folder and delete that (some silly spectrasonics software stores its data there)

i'm kinda interested in the Jupiter 8. If you buy the standard version, can you upgrade for the difference between the standard and UDS version later, or do you have to pay full price for the UDS version even though you already own the standard version?

They have said that there will be an upgrade available.
They could do with a lot more basic info on the site such as:
Software compatibility.
The number of patches and parts.
It's too minimalist.

Do you even know how many presets it comes with? The site doesn't tell you. You can't edit the sounds like you could with an emulation of the Jupiter 8, no matter how much the videos keep trying to make out that Soundpaint NOT being an emulator is a good thing.

I keep seeing "Jupiter 8" but the synth in the videos is labeled Juniper, not Jupiter

I bought the Soul Guitar and Palindrome Standard.
Beta testers and dev team are listed in the about tab of the plugin.

It is an interesting plugin with some crackles and short dropouts, though.
But it's more cpu friendly with shorter preset loading times than NI Kontakt.
Unfortunately disk space matters, but I could still install it.
My first impression of the free piano is that I have plugins that sound more realistic with better playability, articulation and response.
But I think the plugin's strength is the option to create new sounds, so maybe more for sound design!? Too early to tell more, have to tweak around some more...

I agree, as I have some of both, and can appreciate the efficiency of a VA synth!

But in regards to this topic of SoundPaint, it's apparently being marketed towards a more sample oriented user base. So having a sampled synth library available allows sample library users to combine synth sounds with traditional sampled acoustic instruments within a unified user interlace. There are 4 parts or layers available, that you can mix and match to create custom sounds as desired.

Have you ever tried iZoptope's Iris? It has 4 parts available as well, and you can either load the samples they supply, or your own, and/or choose the available VA waveforms to load up the 4 parts with. Mix & match. It does provide spectral filtering of the samples, which is rather unique, where SoundPaint does not.

SoundPaint is just at v1 at release, but they say they expect user sample loading will be available in 2022. I'm not expecting anything like spectral filtering, but the sound shaping options in the interface offer plenty to work with.
