i do own a copy of SoundForge 5 and did use it alot, but that C&R just got so frustaded sometimes I never use it now.
For quick and dirty work I use Wavepad a free and so small it opens faster than anything I seen, plus it is very quick at opening large mp3

Great! I'm getting (ab)used!Kriminal wrote:SF
Anyways, I'm using WaveLab 3, suits all my needs.
Could most likely do with just about anything else if it wasn't for WL's looppoint editing (I sample a lot of stuff by my own).

I use Samplitude. It can do more than I ever need, it's lightning fast and I know how to use it.
Welcome to my sicknature...

I am using Magix audio studio 2004 e-version (what a shitty name). I don't care about it's multitrack capabilities since it can only record at 16 bit, but as a wave editor it can deal with 24 bit wavs just fine and is a really powerful audio editor, thanks to its bigger Samplitude brother. As a bonus it features a mixer which means you can stack up plugins and listen to them in realtime, without the need to apply them destructively first. AFAIK Wavelab is the only other editor that allows for that.
Honestly I always regarded Magix programs more as toys than serious tools, but trying Audio Studio really changed my mind. For 40.- Euro it's simply a steal.

You'll be wanting Wavelab thenidobs wrote:...Actually, I'm not sure if ANY wave-editor allows effects to be chained on-top of the sample without applying it, but I want it....

As I said this is actually possible in audio studio as well (I suppose in Samplitude too).Rozzer wrote:You'll be wanting Wavelab thenidobs wrote:...Actually, I'm not sure if ANY wave-editor allows effects to be chained on-top of the sample without applying it, but I want it....

Awesome response people thanks.
Me, I am a Windows ME user on an older cpu (750 mhz) who is just on the cusp of gettiing into this stuff who is looking for an editor that is easy to use and and is easy on the cpu load.

Adobe Audition. Apply effects in real time (including a freeze function) across 128 tracks of audio, including virtual mixer with aux sends.idobs wrote: I will say that there's one thing that I HATE in SoundForge: The way that you apply DX plugins is aweful. There's no great way to apply a plugin in a non-destructive way. (I.e. plugins are immediately applied to the sample). Actually, I'm not sure if ANY wave-editor allows effects to be chained on-top of the sample without applying it, but I want it.(I'm used to that from my sequencer)

In edit view, AA has absolutely stunning wave editing power, and is deffinitely up there with the top professional software (in fact it's used by professional audio restoration work by major record labels, by radio broadcasters, and even by law-enforcement agencies around the world.)
Fully functioning demo here:

Are there any editors in the freeware/shareware range that can set the root note when editing/exporting samples?
