Why does Yamaha not care about making soft synths?

When it comes to Japanese big synth companies, three come immediately to my mind, Roland, Korg and Yamaha.

Roland has their Cloud stuff and I am a member, so I get to use a lot of classic Roland gear and sounds that I like.

Korg has their Korg Collection and I own that too, so I get to use a lot of classic Korg gear and sounds that I like.

What's up with Yamaha? Why do they not make their own softsynths? Do they not like money or are they just not interested and they have deliberately chosen to ignore the softsynth business?

I think that Yamaha could make their own collection of synths and there are many synths that could be included in the package. I also think that it would sell well and would be a popular thing that many people would like to own.

Let's go Yamaha, get with the times. There is a zero percent chance of me buying any Yamaha hardware anytime soon, but there is a 100 percent chance that I would buy an official collection of Yamaha softsynths, both classic and new synths, if it were done well and sounded good.

If you want my money, then get to work.

too busy with the bikes.

The real money is in hardware, not software. Also, considering Yamaha is much larger than Roland and Korg combined, they might really not deem it necessary to invest in software plugins.

I know that Yamaha is huge and they are involved in making a lot of different things for different industries, but aren't the divisions separate from each other?

I actually owned a Yamaha bike a long time ago and I also owned a few Yamaha hardware synths around the same time that I owned the bike. If they could do it back then, then they can surely make some soft synths if they wanted to today.

Only they can answer that, but don't expect them to.... meanwhile, enjoy the speculation of the good ppl of kvr who haven't a clue :tu:

Technically, they do. Under the Steinberg brand, which they own.

But I know what you mean. It would be nice if they could develop some soft synths under the Yamaha brand, made in the spirit of their legendary hardware.

Yes, since it's been so many years that they have ignored soft synths, I can only come to the same conclusion that they have run the numbers and they have decided that it's simply not worth it for them perhaps.

There was the CX5M which they made back in the day, their own computer which had a sequencer built in. I've never used one but I do remember seeing it back in the day in a few stores. It wasn't a DAW of course, as I don't think any existed at the time, but it was a sequencer at least, though it was a simple one I think.

As for the coding staff, they're a huge company, and soft synths aren't exactly a new invention, so if they truly wanted to they could've hired the people to get the job done, if that was their intention.

I have all of the Korg and Roland stuff, but I wouldn't mind some Yamaha stuff too.

Yes, that is exactly what I'd like to see, their own collection developed and made under the Yamaha brand.
