Still carry a box of Live 8 with my gear. That one was nice and colorful, before they moved to that bland grey color scheme :(

It's crazy because I remember when Live first came out. It took me until versions 8 to "get" Live. Coming from a more traditional tape based workflow to Ableton's workflow was just too big a leap at the time. By the time 8 rolled around I forced myself to get it and now I wonder what was there to get in the first place. LOL. It probably didn't help that Ableton didn't start implementing some major QoL features until version 10 but I digress.

I got into Live when they introduced VST support ... v6 iirc. I got the Suite soon as it was introduced in v7, which seemed pricey at the time, but with all the extra effects and Instruments they've added over the years it was a great investment. Can't imagine working any other way now. I love the Session view.

I bought into Live on v1.5 I had a new iBook and it was running OSx of some flavour and live was one of the first programs to work in the new OS. I really didn't get on with OS 9.x.

Back then it was audio only and I remember as the introduced clip envelopes and I started changing pitches of long samples I recorded in from Absynth on the fly to make melodies - it seems so backwards these days.

The introduction of MIDI was a total game changer and I ran Live until around V8 I think. I still missed it and am never really sure why I let it go so I have just bought suite 11 again.

Simply put there is no other platform where I know the shortcuts, tricks, workflow as well as live and it's the only platform where I can easily get whole tracks up and running. Its influence as a piece of software is massive and the company still seems to be true to its roots all these years later which is something that can't be said for other businesses (cough - props!)

Live 8 started to be ok, but I still used external VST EQ's and everything mostly to replace the effects section. Live 9 I think introduced Cytomic stuff, so EQ8 become useable and so on.
