Cubase 10_ I can only play one synth note at a time??

I can't play a 3 finger chord on any of my vst synths. I can record into Cubase and the midi notes show up on the grid the way I played it but I can only hear one note at a time and almost sounds like it's robbing other notes. This is new as of like 20min ago. What did I do? tia

what are the synths
I started to write out possible reasons but a very long story begins to appear. So first we eliminate limitations of synths, first obvious question is are they for sure polyphonic. Cubase through itself is not going to cause such a thing except in a case where the CPU needs a long time to catch up. For example, I've had to restart the machine before when cymbals tails from BFD3 completely cut out, all of them. The CPU needs a time-out to cool off.
'like it's robbing other notes' - there is a setting in most vis for note stealing preference when polyphony is used up; compare maximum polyphony. For instance Absynth's max is 64 voices, and I always set it to the max because it_will_run_out how I use it. It's run out all but one voice seems unlikely. It could be Cubase corruption, you had a question the other day that I have no answer for at all past that one, probably inexplicable stuff.

Hey jancivil. It's strange. It's doing it with Omnisphere,Falcon,Serum,Pigments and I assume the rest none of which I have been messing so it seems more a global setting or something. I didn't have this problem earlier today but I most likely caused it while troubleshooting for my double midi note issue which I still haven't solved yet. Now I've got two problems. lol. I even reinstalled Cubase. I'll figure it out sooner or later. Thanks as usual for your response. Much appreciated!jancivil wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 1:31 am what are the synths

right, the double notes. sounds like time to make it rebuild prefs. Reinstalling Cubase will refresh some bits in it I suppose but it does not touch preferences.

I actually did that today. I renamed prefs, then actuallytook them out so Cubase doesn't attempt to search for it. I even went from Cubase 10.5 back to Cubase 10 using it's preferences and still have the same issues. It's amazing. It may end up being something so simple right under my nose. Wouldn't be the first time.jancivil wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 2:38 am right, the double notes. sounds like time to make it rebuild prefs. It’s been a while since I’ve used Cubase ( I’m not on v10), but doesn’t it have a “restrict polyphony” function?

Hey cryophonik. Yep it does have that and I saw that it was on 1. raised it up to 100 and it seemed to work on one synth but not another. On top of that It goes back to one even if you save the program. I don't think that's it. The restrict polyphony function is for select parts but not a global solution for my issue.I never messed with it that far for what I was doing but thanks for bringing it up.I'm thinking preferences or setup but so far haven't been able to nail it down or narrow it enough for it to make any sense yet.I have all week to play with it though so eventually I'll get it.cryophonik wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 2:54 am It’s been a while since I’ve used Cubase ( I’m not on v10), but doesn’t it have a “restrict polyphony” function?
