I got the Suite soon as it was introduced in v7, which seemed pricey at the time, but with all the extra effects and Instruments they've added over the years it was a great investment. Can't imagine working any other way now. I love the Session view.
I got in at about the same time… I learned 6 with the bundled lite version that came with my PT “Ignition” pack. I bought 7, and then bought into the suite. It was definitely pricey.

I had Max before Live even existed. I still have the Max manual of version 2 (anybody interested?)… Live never clicked with me, though recently I got Live 10 for a very low price. Now I can test the M4L devices I make…

Yep Max was before Live. I've actually _never_ used the clip launch side, its just way too restricted for my taste. Bitwig got it right by combining the clips and cubases patterns IMHO, but I'm staying on Live for now even though it has its own stupidities (fex. (I'm on 10) cannot combine views for midi controls in the clips) etc.

Was it pretty similar to Pure Data back then?

Makes me feel old to predate this, and other commonly used DAWs, in my musical journeys in the mid to late 1990s. It doesn't seem quite that long ago. Wow.

Back when there was Fruityloops, Hammerhead, and the like were mostly just nice ways to generate samples and loops to use in Impulse Tracker (or FastTracker if you were a weirdo :ud: ) in DOS.

Now one can spend under 100 dollars and get a rock solid, fairly robust audio sequencing, synth, and effects suite. For 10-20 dollars (on sale) now one can get reverb and other effects even studios would have loved to have 20 or 30 years ago. Actually even Live Lite isn't terrible, all things considered. NI and others throwing out freebies here and there too. All of these would have been world changing even a couple decades previously.

The scene has really changed in the past quarter century. It went from fairly quiet niche of geeks and musos using rudimentary freebies to a little less rudimentary, high dollar commercial products to now a consumer level market that anyone and everyone can easily get into. For better or for worse.

In Europe the Amiga was at the pinacle of Sampling. AKAI with the S01and various other ones were there too, but far from as easily accessible as Amiga hardware was

You don't really want to get back there, do you?

Well, MSP was based on Pd. Miller Puckette was always in the credits… Max 2 was just Midi…

Post

Miller Puckette's full name is Miller Smith Puckette, MSP.

And of course, Max is for Max Mathews, or so the legend goes.

I never left even. I have A1200, there are now FT2-clone and PT2-clone to continue without the hardware. ( https://16-bits.org/ )

I still generate and edit samples for Protracker/Fasttracker modules :) (If I'm doing them, usually for some demoscene production)

My A1200 with Turbo 68030 is safe somewhere in the attic :) unfortunately I don't have any screen I could use it with.

030 ooh! Well there are DVI/HDMI adapters that need some chip lifting but still, you can get it to show pic to current monitors

I thought this interview with the founders was pretty interesting. They get loads of private equity offers and are resolute in never selling.

I thought about that, but also about just selling it. According to eBay I could get over €500 for it....... :phones:
