Can anyone w/ Thinkpad/Thinkbook gen 3 experience or knowledge give some advice?

After looking for a PC upgrade for a while, I've found the absolute max I can get in terms of CPU + DIMM slot RAM + SSD size in my price range is a Thinkpad E14/15 gen 3 or a Thinkbook 14/15 gen 3; both have the AMD R 7 5700U, 16gb ram, 512GB M.2 SSD. After extensively researching specs (and calling Lenovo) they claim the only differences are longer battery life and some Dolby-branded audio features that Thinkpad has and Thinkbook doesn't; it was surprising how little their phone customer service people know about their products. I can't find DPC latency specs for either one. Since my other forums haven't been particularly helpful I thought I'd ask here: does anyone have any experience with either of these? I want to be able to run 5 or 6 instances of Omnisphere and use VST istruments/plugins on say 12-15 tracks without the latency/crashing problems of my 2015 Thinkpad. I'm not doing any super complicated recording, just guitar or a condenser mic into a Scarlett and my MIDI controller; Omnisphere is probably the "heaviest" thing I want to use. Both models are typically $1k+ but on sale for ~$600 after rebates/coupons, and when I look up the AMD R 7 5700U, cpubenchmark says its faster than almost all of the i5s and some of the i7s... am I missing something? Is either one preferable or particularly bad? Or am I wrong to be considering either one? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.
