if you're on twitter and tag or @ NI and Izotope about something that bugs you you'll get a response from izotope usually. asking to go into DMs to talk about it. i reply in a thread when this happens as it keeps the discussion public.
it's a decent way to "shake fist at cloud" or "old man yells at sky" w/thoughts about subscription only model and nagging them to keep perpetual licenses available.. but at least it lets them know what some users want and gives them some feedback about valuing users over shareholders or venture capitalist demands etc.
so, if anyone feels like a little rant to get their attention.. twitter is a decent way to do that.

If a thread goes into racist commentary just ban the racists. Problem solved

They shouldn't but it seems like they do. Mostly being bought by another company that's primary goal unhindered by anything like an ideal is money is a bad idea for anything like music software. Air seems to have taken a hit from being bought by InMusic, although Akai are in slightly better shape, ignoring VIPs abandonment etc. Time will tell.kvmorgan wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 5:14 pmI agree. I've got an old 12 core here that will serve as a VEP slave with NI and iZotope software on it. I can't see this playing out in a way that makes sense for me or anyone besides the film/TV production people, subscription and very possibly low investment in advancing the software in the future.

No one was racist, the last thread mentioned some resignations at NI because of some racially insensitive/tone deaf ads they ran, then it turned into a discussion on why most CEOs are white men, which led to the thread being locked. Bones can piss all over this site calling anyone who disagrees with his views idiots, but adults can't discuss sensitive issues without the mods flipping out, you figure that one out, because I really cannot no matter how I wrap my head around it.briefcasemanx wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 5:32 pm If a thread goes into racist commentary just ban the racists. im in the "let's see what actually occurs, then worry about it" camp
could be a good few months before anything concrete and noticeable comes from this, i have several things to think about before "something that may possibly not occur at some point in the future".
eg weve got bonfire night on friday, who doesn't love burning stuff?

Rather than worry about all that unknowable stuff, I'm more bothered by RX9, which was the most lacklustre and under-performing release in that product's history (this from someone who has been enthusiastic about every single update since RX2, even though many here haven't been). Given how many things that product COULD have done in RX9, I'm a bit concerned that the R&D budget has been cut, and / or they had to push out a release when it wasn't ready - presumably to get more income.

of these two, im only invested in to ni, and so far, the instruments that concern me most, are doing fine, except of course absynth, but that was long gone before any "business shenanigans" happened at ni.

not that i don't feel for anyone who has had issues with either companies products
obviously id prefer it if we were all happy customers all the time, i always prefer reading people's positive stuff than regrets.
sadly, im sure we all have a few of those...

It's really not too hard to predict the future on this one. I do agree it will be several months before we see the effects. By then, however, it's way too late to make your voice heard.vurt wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 6:13 pm im in the "let's see what actually occurs, then worry about it" camp

in that case i wish you luck, but i don't see our voices changing anything.kvmorgan wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 6:52 pmIt's really not too hard to predict the future on this one. as you said, it's easy to see what will happen, they'll seek greater profits.
whatever they see as providing that, won't change because previous customers don't like it.

I heard that the first goal of the new board for the next 10 years will be to bring Massive X 1.4 to life. They're about to open 10 more facilities just for this one task.

Lets just hope something good comes of this for end users. I have most of the software from both companies, it's amongst the best, at the very last I expect NKS for all iZotope products, so great new mastering FX in Maschine and bring back Iris 2

I’ve owned Komplete since version 2 so either Im dense or I like their product (probably both), but Komplete 12 Ultimate had so much locked sample based ROMpler content it’s really made me think they aren’t headed anywhere near a direction I want to go in. I upgrade mainly to keep Kontakt current, but NI can do great things.. At this point though I can 100% see the future is more locked sample based ROMpler content. iZotope has been attempting to push subscription models for a while so this isn’t any surprise, the AI to get a song mastered is pretty great though, but an old copy here on an older machine will do when the subscription model is all you can buy…

Yeh, I am pretty much all in as well with 13 Ultimate and a S49 Mk2 (I upgraded from 10 in a 50% off BF sale so had great value but haven't used half of it!) I do worry about NI, there ability to update their own software like MaschineX has been poor- they subcontract most of the romper stuff so...I also suspect Maschine+ was a big miss for them (working on the theory even I didn't want top buy it, and I buy everything
)
Anyway, I hope they come out of this stronger...I like NI, I want them to succeed.

Kontakt is about the only NI product I use these days, and even that not so much. I’ve found more enjoyable and exciting products elsewhere (for iZotope as well). Isn’t competition wonderful? At this point, I can honestly say I wouldn’t miss either NI or iZotope if they go subscription.machinesworking wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 7:39 pm I’ve owned Komplete since version 2 so either Im dense or I like their product (probably both), but Komplete 12 Ultimate had so much locked sample based ROMpler content it’s really made me think they aren’t headed anywhere near a direction I want to go in.
