ah fraid i dont really know of any pedals that would be cheaperjbraner wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 7:32 pm Thanks vurt, yeah, it's for guitar.
I'm just looking for a simple pedal for occassional feedback
I've been using the Softube plugin - it works fine with amp sims - but since using it with a *real* amp it doesn't sound very good. It seems to want to work with th eraw guitar file.
The Digitech one seems to do th etrick but:
A it's not available right now in the UK
B it's not worth th eprice for the once in a while that I'd use it![]()
not saying there arent any, just not seen them!
good luck on the search, and if you do find anything, please report back, as id be interested myself

Is there a cheap version of something like the Digitech Freqout? (feedback simulator)

Thanks

Thanks Uncle E and Noodlist.
Those are all around the same price as the Freqout - except that Fender pedal - I didn't see that available anywhere (I'll keep my eyes open though...)
I was just wondering if there were any "el cheapo" versions available.
I would really use it very rarely...
I think I'll just screw around with the plugins for now

While I like my freqOut, you might wanna try an amp sim instead.
IMHO real amp feedback can do crazy things, more than what the freqOut is designed to do.
Another feature of the freqOut is the fact one can switch it on and off (unlike the feedback reacted by a loud amp), perhaps unmuting an amp sim using an expression pedal could be an alternative way to achieve a somewhat similar effect?
Also, keep in mind Digitech's future seems somewhat uncertain. Bought by a huge multinational (Samsung owned Harman) who deleted the whole team. At least some of their pedals (Obscura, even the digital Ventura Vibe) seem to have gone out of production since.

Would you mind expanding on that? From the videos I watched, the freqOut doesn't sound like real feedback but seems to do some interesting things that you can't do with feedback. Do you think that is a fair assessment? I'm interested in getting it for those sounds I can't get with real feedback.cptgone wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 11:45 pm While I like my freqOut, you might wanna try an amp sim instead.

I have loads of amp sims and the Softube plugin works fine with amp sims. You have to load it first before any amp sim.
I've got a real amp now, so I don't have any "raw" guitar to process - it's recorded through the amp (I still do the cab sim in the box though). The Softube plugin doesn't seem to work as good now. It "works" but it sounds fake now. I downloaded the blue Cat AcouFiend demo and it seems to be the same. It's much more configurable though, so I'm gonna play some more.
I was just looking at hardware solutions, since I could run the pedal before any amp etc - but it's not worth spending >£100 on it

Yes I do, it's a neat little trick IMHO, and the knobs offer control over its settings. It's been ages since I played a real amp loud enough to get the real thing though, so I'm not well placed to compare.Uncle E wrote: Thu Nov 04, 2021 12:51 amWould you mind expanding on that? You might wanna consider splitting your signal before the amp, and record both.

the only thing i can think of, it doesn't scream quite the same. there is a certain something to real feedback that the pedal doesn't quite manage.
however, the obvious advantages of control and as you say the things it does, that real feedback won't, make it an addition rather than replacement in my opinion.
eg, i can't imagine mbv sounding the same, using this instead of just overpowering the amps

do you have an output on the interface and a second input?jbraner wrote: Thu Nov 04, 2021 9:26 amI have loads of amp sims and the Softube plugin works fine with amp sims. You have to load it first before any amp sim.

direct guitar in channel 1.
in daw channel out to output 1 in to amp, back in to channel 2.
may take a bit of work matching levels n such, but i do this a fair bit with various things.

Yeah, I may have to do something like that. I've avoided it so far, as it will be a PIA for the way I like to work. I like to just loop a section in Reaper and play a part a few times (well, sometimes more than a few) and then chop up the "takes" and pick out the good parts.
This would be a nightmare with "double" guitar parts
PS - I'm just sitting down to see if I can make Acoufiend work for me (recording through the amp and a Captor reactive load)

Talking about feedback pedals... my old BOGG GS-10 has a feedbacker effect on it, it's pretty cool on its own, but also in conjunction with a real overdriven amp and a slicer (gate) effect.
Love the GS-10 for its versatility, they never made anything quite like it before or since.

Well worth snapping one up while they're still cheap, IMHO they still hold their own against more modern multi FX units. I use an FCB1010 foot controller with mine.Uncle E wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 4:22 amWow! That looks great! I've recently breathed new life into mine by integrating it into my DAW using the free GS-10 manager software from mountainutilities.eu
The only other bit of kit that's comparable but much more expensive is the Roland VG-99.
Believe it or not, even the built-in speakers make a very nice sound!
